History
Lead by Kevin Parker, Tame Impala got their start in 2007 as a psychedelic rock band. They originally got their start in the city of Perth in Australia as a home recording project by their front man. They began posting their recordings to their Myspace page, which eventually got the attention from record labels. After only a year since the band was founded they were signed to Modular Recordings, and the once one-person band turned into a three-man gig. Alongside Parker was Dominic Simper playing bass and Jay Watson playing the drums, the three began playing in small local venues gradually gaining a following. Shortly after signing with their record label they released their first self-entitled EP, which reached the top of the Australian charts. Three singles from the EP landed on national radio, including “Desire Be, Desire Go”, “Half Full Glass of Wine” and “Skeleton Tiger”. Later in 2008 the group toured to support their EP with stops around Australia and even some in the United Kingdom. In 2010 the group released their first full length album Innerspeaker. The album was the first release the group had in the United States and it quickly charted on the best new music charts. The band toured throughout the world on their own later that year as well as the opening act for MGMT. Throughout their career the band has played at venues around the world including at some of the top named festivals, including Coachella and Sasquatch Festival. In 2014 the band received their first ever Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Tame Impala has released several albums over the years with their most recent released in the summer of 2019.
