The Introduction to Music
Steve was born in Compton, California on May 23rd, 1998. His first experience with the guitar was at the age of seven while playing the video game Guitar Hero. He soon was inspired to pick up a real guitar. He was also in the jazz band at his high school where he met former band member of The Internet, Jameel Bruner. When it came to pursue his interest of producing, he first made beats on his iPhone.
Establishing Credit
Steve produced eight tracks on The Internet’s third album called Ego Death. Ego Death was then nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Since then, he has produced for various artists including J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, Mac Miller, Solange and more. In addition to supporting other artists, he also makes time for his own music. Steve released his debut album titled Apollo XXI on May 24th, 2019. Having proven to be able to tackle a variety of genres, some of his biggest influences include Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu, The Neptunes, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Thundercat.
2019 Tour
Steve Lacey announced his first headlining tour this fall. This tour supports his album Apollo XXI. Fans were ready to grab these tickets as they have been anticipating him to hit the road for awhile now. The tour kicked off at the House of Blues in Chicago on September 26th. He traveled to various venues including the Apollo Theater in New York, The Showbox in Seattle, The Wiltern in Los Angeles, and The Forum in London among many others.
