The story of Marian Hill starts back when Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd were high school students in Philadelphia. Developing a friendship over their shared interest in music, they kept in touch throughout college by comparing their individual musical pursuits. Eventually their friendship moved to collaboration, and by the time they had written "Whisky" they had found their groove. In 2013 they released their debut EP, Play, along with another childhood friend, jazz musician Steve Davit. Their unique blend of electronica with blues, Davit's saxophone, and Gongol's sultry vocals quickly caught the attention of the underground dance scene. In 2016 they released their first full-length album, but it was the following year that their popularity exploded. Apple used their single "Down" in a commercial for the iPhone 7 + AirPods, sparking worldwide interest in the young artists.
