Writing his way to Grammy Awards
After graduating high school, Kenny Loggins played in a number of bands. He wrote several singles for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In 1970 Kenny Loggins met producer Jim Messina, and the two struck up a musical collaboration. In 1971 they released Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin' In. While the project had been intended to launch Loggins on his solo career, Messina had contributed so much to the album and was such a strong partner that the pair decided to continue as a duo. Kenny Loggins finally launched his solo career in 1977 with the record Celebrate Me Home. He frequently collaborated with other artists, and in 1980 Loggins and Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for "What A Fool Believes." Kenny Loggins also attracted the attention of Hollywood, earning the title "King of the Movie Soundtrack" for songs like "Danger Zone" in Top Gun, "Footloose" in Footloose, and "I'm Alright" in Caddyshack. In 2011 he joined Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr in the Blue Sky Riders, a crackling trio with a second album due out in 2016.
