From the Big Screen to the Stage

A popular game show on Nickelodeon in the eighties and nineties, Double Dare allowed for children and teenagers to compete in mind boggling trivia games and trivial physical stunts. Separated into teams two contestants faced off with each other in a two-round game. Starting off with a physical challenge and wrapping up with trivia questions. Not only did contestants lose their monetary prizes if they guessed wrong, they also had to do another physical challenge, which often entailed a messy situation! The contestant that came out on top after the second round then had to move on to an obstacle course that was a bonus round. If they were able to make it through the course within 60 seconds they got a grand cash prize, but don’t worry those who didn’t complete the course in time still got prizes for every obstacle they defeated! In early 1993 the original game show was cut, with Nickelodeon only airing reruns. In 2000 the network revitalized the game show only for it to be cut short not even a year into production.

In 2012 Double Dare was resurrected once again, but this time it was a live stage performance put on for guests at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando. For the next five years the resort would host contestants on the stage to compete in a similar manner of the original game show. When the resort was rebranded, the show ceased to exist. In spring of 2018 Nickelodeon made the decision to bring the famed game show back to the big screen, this time with YouTube personality Liza Koshy as the host. With the revitalization of the TV series along came the revitalization of the stage show. In August of 2018 it was announced that the stage tour would be making stops at several cities across the United States including Fayetteville, Cincinnati, and Baltimore.

What to Expect

With the same premise as the original game show, eight contestants are chosen from the audience at random. Following similar formatting, the competition begins with trivia and then leads to the physical challenge. Beware though, you do not want to be caught in your best clothes for these physical challenges. They often entail contestants getting soaking wet and covered in everything from slime to “spaghetti sauce”. Like in the TV show the last team standing heads on over to an obstacle course where they compete for additional prizes.
