DNCE started quietly. The idea for the band blossomed between Joe Jonas and his roommate Jack Lawless, though it wasn't until 2015 when JinJoo Lee and Cole Whittle joined the group that DNCE began in earnest. DNCE teased fans by playing secret shows in New York, releasing their first single, "Cake by the Ocean," in September 2015. Their debut EP, SWAAY, was released shortly after, featuring popular singles like "Toothbrush" and "Pay My Rent." DNCE's electro-pop sound makes their catchy tunes fun and easy to dance to. In fact, their name DNCE is a drunken misspelling of the word "dance," reflecting the band's carefree and playful attitude.
