Imagine 700 acres of land in the middle of Tennessee, filled with thousands of eager concertgoers camping, singing and dancing to more than 150 musical performers for four days of non-stop entertainment. That was the pipedream of four college graduates just over a decade ago. In 2002, the four members of Superfly Presents, who shared a deep love for all thing’s music, put on the first-ever Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. To say that it was a success would be a drastic understatement. Cheap Bonnaroo tickets sold out within two weeks and Rolling Stone immediately called it "the most ambitious festival of the year." By the following year, the internationally recognized magazine of music had also named the event one of the top 50 moments in rock and roll history. The term "bonnaroo" came from New Orleans R&B singer Dr. John, who popularized the Creole slang word, which means "a really good time," with his 1974 album "Distinctively Bonnaroo." The festival's founders chose the term to celebrate their love for the Louisiana music culture they experienced and enjoyed throughout college.

As one of the largest music festivals in the U.S., Bonnaroo celebrates both up-and-coming artists and music legends, as well as comedians and talented performers. With a focus in the grassroots rock genre, the music event of the summer also features a variety of bluegrass, jazz and electronica. In addition to music, 24-hour entertainment in the form of comedy shows, yoga classes, arcades, movie screenings, endless food venues and even a microbrew festival are part of the true 'Roo experience. Bonnaroo 2020 and 2021

The 2020 Bonnaroo Music Festival was originally scheduled to take place the second weekend of June 2021, but the festival was postponed to September 2-5, 2021. The four-day festival was set to kick off Thursday September 2nd, 2021, but instead heavy rains saturated the grounds to where it was no longer safe to hold the festival at all. Unfortunately Bonnaroo was cancelled. Bonnaroo 2021 headliners were to include the Foo Fighters, Lizzo, Tyler, The Creator, Megan Thee Stallion, Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey, and Grand Ole Opry featuring special guests.

Bonnaroo 2022

Bonnaroovians rejoice, as the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival plans to return to The Farm June 16 to 19, 2022. The lineup was announced early in the year to get fans excited for the festival return. Top artists from all genres signed up for the 2022 festival. From J. Cole, Roddy Ricch, 21 Savage to Stevie Nicks, Tool, Gryffin and many more hit the Bonnaroo stage in 2022.
