History
The Lakers franchise was founded in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers but moved to Los Angeles before the 1960-1961 season. Some of the most notable players from the 1960s and on have included basketball greats such as George Mikan, Eglin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and of course, Shaquille O’Neal. Kobe Bryan and Shaquille O’Neal were a force to be reckoned with, helping the team win three consecutive titles between 2000 and 2002, securing the franchise its second three-peat”. Be sure to catch a Lakers game against their rivals, the Boston Celtics, who they beat for their most recent championship victory in 2010, and the Los Angeles Clippers, who share the same home stadium at the Staples Center.
Lakers vs. Celtics
The rivalry between the Boston Celtics and the Lakers has been ongoing for years. Since the 1948 season, the two teams have met over 358 times. In the 1960s, both teams met in the Finals six times, with Boston winning all of the matches. They were also both featured in every NBA Finals matchup during the 1980s. The shift in power has toggled from time to time. For instance, although the Celtics dominated in the 1960s and 1970s, the Lakers bounced backed with three consecutive titles from 2000-20002.
Lakers vs. Clippers

Over the years, typically when the Clippers would start losing, the Lakers would be winning and vice versa. Both teams have had their strong moments, and downfalls, contributing to their rivalry.
