The origins of the Calgary Stampede date back to 1886 when the city of Calgary hosted their first exhibition as an attempt to educate their citizens about how to properly practice agriculture. After the exhibition garnered a lot of success, the city began hosting it as an annual event. The exhibition became known as a stampede for the first time in 1912. Although the first stampede did not get as much success as they originally had hoped, they continued to host the event-expanding events to draw in more fans. Over the years the stampede has brought thousands of spectators to the city for not only the rodeo but also the evening show.
The Calgary Stampede Evening Show
The Calgary Stampede Evening Show takes place every night of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo. It kicks off with the chuckwagon derby, which features nine heats of four wagons. After the last horse carrying the wagon crosses the line, a group of dancers known as the Bell Grandstand Show come out to entertain the audience with jaw dropping dance and acrobatics. The 2019 Bell Grandstand Show gained inspiration from 20th century travelling shows and was entitled “Trailblazer”. Fans followed along with the show master Onalea as she travelled throughout an adventure like no other. After the completion of the dance performances fans are delighted with a firework finale like no other!
