Franchise History

Minor Western League leader Ban Johnson declared its equality with the National League in 1901, bringing the Boston "Americans" along. Things moved fast, and in 1903, Boston played in the first ever modern World Series. They beat the favored Pittsburgh Pirates 5 games to 3 in a 9-game series. For close to 20 years, the Red Sox were an unstoppable force in baseball. Fans witnessed some of the best players in history such as Tris Speaker, Smoky Joe Wood and Babe Ruth. The team won five World Series championships during this time! In 1920, however, Harry Frazee, owner at the time, decided to leave baseball and started to sell many of the top players on the team. The loss of so much talent brought the Red Sox to turmoil, averaging over 100 losses per season for years. Aside from a couple of star players, the Red Sox did not make a real turn around until 1986. They lost the Series that year but it was evident that they were coming back together as a team. In more recent ventures, the Red Sox pulled up their belts and swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. Their performance was evidently on and off for years to come, but as of most recent years, the Red Sox have changed drastically. They made the World series in 2017 and took the title the following year. There is no doubt that the Sox will continue to "do damage" in the upcoming years. Want to see for yourself? America's Most Beloved Park

As one of the most famous venues for baseball in the country, Fenway Park has housed the Sox since 1915! There is no wonder that the ballpark, the fans, and the city itself hold so much pride and respect for the sport. Fenway Park features the famous "Green Monster", a 37.1-foot wall in left field. Hitting a bomb over the wall is a feat that not too many ballplayers have accomplished. There is also one lone red seat within the stands, signifying the longest home run ever hit in Fenway by Ted Williams.

Heated Rivalries

The Red Sox and the New York Yankees are part of the oldest, most renown rivalries in baseball itself. Every postseason has featured at least one of these teams. The teams faced off most recently in the 2018 World Series, where the Red Sox clinched in four games. Games between New York and Boston often get the most media coverage, usually being broadcast on national television.

The World Series title holders are squaring up for another insanely impressive year of baseball. Do you want to come see Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, and J.D. Martinez tear up the field? Come down to Fenway Park this MLB season to cheer on the Red Sox as they take on baseball’s most intense competition! Don't miss out on any of the action! Breaking the Curse of the Bambino

The Curse of the Bambino began in 1919 when the Boston Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in the 1919-1920 off-season. The Red Sox had been a dominate force in professional baseball prior to 1919, they not only won the first ever World Series but won 5 titles between 1903 and 1918. After they traded Babe Ruth it wasn’t until decades later (1946) when the Red Sox appeared in the World Series again. In 2004 the Boston Red Sox faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 100th edition of the World Series. The Red Sox ended up winning 4 games in a row and broke the “Curse of the Bambino” which had loomed over the team for almost a century.
