For your next romantic getaway, why settle for champagne on ice and rose petals on the bed when you could opt for mirrored ceilings and heart-shaped Jacuzzis? A handful of hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfasts across the country can transform—and spice up—an otherwise cookie-cutter couples escape with over-the-top themed rooms that invite pure fantasy. We’ve curated a handful of the kitschiest properties to ignite passion, and perhaps inspire some tongue-in-cheek chuckles, as well.

Cove Haven Resort: Lakeville, PA

This couples resort in the Poconos Mountains is a vintage throwback to romancing circa 1960, mainly because it’s been around for that long and has curiously evaded a modern facelift. Cove Haven Resort is most famous for its 7-foot-high champagne glass-shaped whirlpools. If you can’t score a room with this novelty, however, don’t fret. All suites come with a heart-shaped jetted tub for two and a log-burning fireplace.

Madonna Inn: San Luis Obispo, CA

Step into a whimsical paradise at Madonna Inn, where its 110 guest rooms are each uniquely decorated in a Boho-vintage style that blends the movie set aesthetic of Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino. Think patterned wallpaper, quirky antiques, upcycled furniture and plush pillows in bold colors. Valentine’s Day is every day in the “Hearts & Flowers” or “Love Nest” rooms, the latter of which features a winding staircase to a private viewing tower.

Don Q Inn: Dodgeville, WI

Warm up in southwestern Wisconsin. The 25 themed rooms at Don Q Inn include one called “Northern Lights,” where you can heat things up in a full-sized igloo. To add to the ambience, the in-room whirlpool overlooks an arctic landscape mural. Among the other favorites: “Cupid’s Corner,” which includes a heart-shaped bed with a mirrored ceiling, and “Up, Up and Away,” which features a giant hot air balloon bed—perfect for those who dream of escapes in the air but may be fearful of heights.

Black Swan Inn: Pocatello, ID

The Black Swan Inn is a bed-and-breakfast experience where the murals and sculptures–and even the showers—that occupy each of its 14 rooms will transport you into a different universe. Options range from “Mayan Rainforest” and “English Garden” to “The Wild West” and “Arabian Nights.” There are also two cave-themed options, one of which features a gigantic clam shell bed.

Adventure Suites: North Conway, NH

Adventure Suites is a playful hotel in the White Mountains with a legacy dating back to the 1950s. It offers something for everyone in its 20 themed rooms. Among them, the “Love Shack” suite features the psychedelic décor of the 1970s, such as black lights, a disco ball, martini sink and a Chevy car. “The Jungle” suite, with its lush greenery and exotic animals (don’t worry, they’re not real), has a hot tub at the base of a rock waterfall and a fiber optic night sky ceiling with shooting stars.

Red Carpet Inn and FantaSuite Hotel: Greenwood, IN

Enjoy your “Happily Ever After” in the Cinderella room at the Red Carpet Inn and FantaSuite Hotel. This suite includes a queen-sized bed within a horse-drawn carriage, as well as a “glass slipper” whirlpool. It’s one of 20 themed suites at this property just outside of Indianapolis. Among the diverse themes are two intergalactic fantasy rooms: “Space Odyssey”—which features a moon crater whirlpool—and “Alien Invasion,” whose highlights include a flying saucer bed and over-sized Jacuzzi with mirrors surrounding it.

Anniversary Inn – 5th South: Salt Lake City

As the name suggests, Anniversary Inn caters to couples who want to celebrate a relationship milestone—by stepping into a fantasy. Take bedroom role-playing to the next level in the “Wild West” room, where you can sleep in or engage in “wild” activities in a covered wagon. Or, opt for a bed encased within an old-fashioned carriage with a stay in the “English Countryside” room. Anniversary Inn has four locations: three in the Salt Lake area and one in Boise.

Gallery Holiday Motel: South Amboy, NJ

If any state can take tacky romance to another level, it’s New Jersey. Within the Garden State, just 45 minutes from New York City, you’ll find Gallery Holiday Motel. It’s a motel made for hanky-panky, boasting circular beds, colored lights and mirrored ceilings galore. Choose from options such as the “Jungle Suite,” “Neon Suite,” “Ocean Suite” or—what might be the classiest tacky room of the bunch—the “Purple Suite.” The motel is near several popular nightclubs and rents rooms by the night or in 4-hour chunks.
