Don’t trust your own packing instincts? How about the advice of world famous clothing maven Cynthia Rowley? The New York-based fashion designer dishes on how to travel lightly (would you believe she never checks a bag?) and also her vacation faves. Follow her advice when packing for your next vacation and follow our advice by booking hotels and airfare at CheapTickets.com.

Cynthia Rowley designs for women like herself, who are constantly on the move.

Her global lifestyle brand consists of all things required for the cool girl with an on-the-go lifestyle — expanding beyond women’s apparel, activewear, surf and swimwear to include beauty, jewelry, fragrances, shoes, a wide range of accessories, and even home furnishings and office supplies. It’s safe to say that, as a Rowley girl, you’re committing to a way of life, not just an outfit choice.

And the Rowley way of life is carefree — full of color, adventure, and constant curiosity — just like her collections. We asked her a few short questions about her travel routine.

What’s your packing philosophy?

“I have a travel checklist: Two pairs of shoes, tees and fitness attire, jeans, a couple of layers, some pretty dresses, big earrings, and a swimsuit. Travel lightly so you have room for presents.”

Do you have a favorite travel bag?

“I never check a bag, so a Louis Vuitton roller and a Cynthia Rowley tote.”

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken?

“[My family and I] have taken so many epic trips it’s almost impossible to choose one. We all love to surf, so many trips revolve around that. But my kids are real adventurers and will go to any far-flung place — Gigi was the youngest person to climb one of the foothills in the Himalayas! And Kit scuba dove in Iceland’s Arctic waters.”

What’s the one place that surprised you?

Portugal. It has such beautiful beaches (see Costa da Caparica), great food, and a cool vibe all around. Stay at the Pestana Palace Hotel and check out the vendors at the revitalized industrial park, LX Factory, under the 25 de Abril Bridge.”

Where have you always wanted to visit?

“I want to go everywhere! I have a huge list. The world is becoming more and more homogenized every day; we all need to travel as much as possible. I also think it’s important to be a good citizen abroad to show the world that Americans are curious, respectful, and loving people.”

And what’s the one thing you cannot travel without?

“A sense of adventure. Oh, and a toothbrush.”
