This Inn is very historic and we enjoyed looking at all of the history throughout the building. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. The location was very convenient to the battlefield locations we were visiting. In addition, we had a GREAT breakfast that was included in the rate. We also had dinner at the Inn’s restaurant which was very good as well.

    Excellent hospitality

We were the only occupants of the hotel the night of our stay, yet we received an excellent breakfast which was served early for our convenience. The hospitality was outstanding.

This inn is a great place to stay if you are interested in history. It is not, however, a fancy hotel with all of the amenities. The staff is small, the building is old, and the location is on a busy street. Senior citizens with mobility issues may find it difficult to navigate. But, the history embedded in this hotel is unique and well worth a visit. According to the staff it has been in existence and operational continuously since it was built in 1797, the year that George Washington finished his time as president. It initially served as a stagecoach stop for a while and it was commandeered as a base of operations for both Jubal Early and Phillip Sheridan during the Civil War battle for control of the Shenandoah Valley. The inn has a tavern and a restaurant which serves a wonderful breakfast for guests. The restaurant is closed during the middle of the week so if you are looking to eat there in the evening you may want to check the restaurants hours. For us it was a wonderful place to stay and I recommend it highly.
