The house is in a great location, on the dune in the Villas with a bay view. The wifi was very fast, the A/C worked well, and the washer/dryer looked brand new.
Now, for everything else:
It was not 'just'dirty - there was mold growing in the used coffee grounds in the coffee pot. There was an incredible amount of dirt, sand, and crumbs under the couch cushions, and even a water bottle between the sleeper sofa couch cushions. We couldn't bring ourselves to sit on them our entire stay. The blades on the ceiling fans in the house were caked in dust, as were the air vents. This wasn't from not cleaning between renters, these weren't cleaned in a long time. The roman shades on all the windows were dotted in mold.
As for the livability - The dining room light was out. There are no outside lights, or no outside functioning lights. You have to use your cell phone as a flashlight when going in or out at night. Some of the venetian blinds didn't rotate open/closed. There is minimal furniture. One side of the master bedroom had an end table only large enough to put your phone. The other side had nothing. The 2nd bedroom had no furniture other than the beds. There was no closet, no dresser; you have to live out of your suitcase even though you're staying in a house. The bathroom had no place other than the toilet seat to put your towel, toiletries, clothes.
There was no outside shower as advertised. The outside is desperate for some landscaping. The yard is overgrown, wild, with poison ivy.
We love Cape May. We come several times a year and always rent through VRBO. If we had the same choice again - take this as the only place available as a last minute stay or just not come, in the future we just wouldn't come.
