Tijuana, Mexico, is a sprawling border city of over one million residents, which is located south of San Diego, on the Baja peninsula. It is a rapidly changing area with several visitor-oriented neighborhoods and a blossoming restaurant scene. It is also a popular jumping-off point for further exploration of Baja California.
Many travelers appreciate the beach areas immediately to the south of Tijuana, particularly Rosarito. There, beach goers can walk for miles on the public shoreline and enjoy food stands and vendors right on the sand. Another nearby attraction is the Valle de Guadalupe, or Guadalupe Valley; with over 100 wineries for wine tasting and fine dining.
Tijuana has its own international airport, the General Abelardo L. Rodriguez Airport (TIJ), on the far northern side of town, close to the US border. Car rentals are available there as well as taxi cabs, which are an inexpensive and practical way to make your way to your lodgings. Many visitors to Tijuana also arrive from the US via car on Interstate 5. The Zona Rio neighborhood and Agua Caliente stadium are popular visitor destinations; both are located close to the border.
Weather in Tijuana is generally pleasant, but it can be well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit between July and October, while cool desert breezes often prevail in the evening.
