    About this property

    Beautiful Cabin Retreat

Cabin is located on 9 wooded acres in Tamms Illinois, in the heart of NAPA ILLINOIS, and in Historic Little Egypt, and in Southern Illinois, on the edge of the Shawnee Forest. Wildlife abounds, including; Mountain Lions, Black Panthers, Lynx, Bobcats, Coyotes, Wolfs that have breed with Coyotes, Rare Black Bears, Deer, Armadillos, Bald Eagles, Hawks, A nesting pair of Great Horned Owls on Property, Too many Songbirds to mention, Humingbirds, Vultures Songbirds galore, Turtles and more. Our Lodge is located in an Internationally Important Ecosystem, the Cache River Basin, because it's where the Eastern enviornment meets the Western Enviornment and the Nothern meets the Southern. Parts of the area look just like Louisiana, minus the Gators! The northern range of the Ozark Mountains extends into our area, with the tallest mountain in Illinois, Bald Knob, just minutes away. It's the midwest mecca for wildfowl, with Horseshoe Lake a short drive away, and many Hunting spots nearby, including on our 9 acre Preserve. There is great hiking on our property, you can climb Mount Saint Tams (670 feet) just a stones throw from the front porch and do a little rock climbing. It's also repuded to be a hotspot for Bigfoot! So come and relax and enjoy your stay with us, we look forward to serving you!

My husband and I loved the coffee table, but there was no ball

Stayed 1 night in Feb 2020

      Overall cleanliness

Refrigerator was a little dirty. Bedding was rolled up on the bed and all of the bedding was not washed. Luckily there was a washer and dryer. No TV service. The rugs had not been vacuumed or even shook out. We did not stay all of our reserved nights. The owner was so nice to reimburse for the night not we did not stay. I thank her for that.

      5/5 Excellent

        Tamms Cabin

Had a great time on the southern Illinois wine trail in the Tamms cabin. The cabin was perfect and the owner was very hospitable.

          Not as expected

This cabin will cause me to think twice before booking another VRBO property and trusting their reviews. 1st it was very dirty. It was so bad that we had to sweep the floor before we brought in our belongings. There is no way the cabin was cleaned before our stay. I got more dirt in the dust pan when I swept on our arrival than I did when I swept it before we left. It felt as if someone was living there and just moved out for our stay. There was used shamoo, soap, and razor in the shower. Boxes of Mac and cheese and canned goods in kitchen and feminine products in the bath. The dresser in the bedroom had a huge red stain all over the top that seriously looked like blood! The carpet had black stuff all over it that we later discovered was pieces of vinyl peeling off the couch cushions. There was also lots of spider/cob webs behind the bedside tables and we had to clean that before we felt comfortable sleeping in there. There was still junk in the drawers. A piece of the paneling was coming away from the wall in the bathroom, and we were never able to get the tv or Wi-Fi to work. The few dishes they had didn't look clean so we washed everything before we used it. There was a dishwasher but no detergent for it so I also had to do all the dishes by hand There was no instructions on how anything worked or what to do with trash when it was full. Just seemed very haphazard and disorganized for a vacation rental. We did not contact the owners about this while we were there because it was too late to find a different place and to be honest I was too angry with the situation to even talk civilly to them. We had driven 4 hours, stopped and hiked a bit and just wanted to get to the cabin and relax and quietly celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. Instead I paid to clean someone else's house TWICE because I know from our stays in many other vacation rentals what to do before checkout. This owner is listed as a premier partner that consistently provides great experiences for their guests. How is that rating given? VRBO needs to better research their rental partners. If I can't trust the reviews or VRBO's recommendations I will no longer book from this site.

            Weekend Get-Away

This property was great for our weekend get-away to southern Illinois for hiking and site seeing. It had all the necessities for what we expected of the cabin. One suggestion we had is a better tv setup. There is internet but no way to utilize the tv with the internet connection. Also, a small grill would be a great addition to the welcoming porch, making it easier to prepare meals without dirtying a bunch of dishes. The property is right next to another cabin as stated in previous reviews. We would stay again!
