Great location and lots of room

Trent’s house is conveniently located to downtown, the zoo, PNC park and Kennywood Park..Our visit to Pittsburgh was the highlight of the summer..We were very comfortable and had lots of room in the house as well as lots of TVs..Trent provided everything one would need to feel at home..So happy he shared his home with me and my family..

Horrible, dangerous conditions, unsafe, mold, insect issue - must be fake good reviews

This house was not just a horrible disappointment, it was filled with terribly unsafe conditions which put myself and our infant and toddler children at risk. We contacted the owner immediately after each issue and he was kind and responsive but denied all issues. I have to say I had no concerns before renting as all of the reviews were good and that makes me truly believe they must come from friends/family of the owner. From the moment we arrived we were skeptical as the smell was an overwhelming combination of mothballs, chemicals and tons of fragrances. The pictures of the rooms were as advertised but in each room were 3-5 large yankee candles on shelves and in each room were 2-3 plug in air freshener per room. The smell was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before and it took until the evening of the 2nd day to discover that the basement, clearly flooded for some time had 2-3 inches of water, 6-7 feet of black mold, cans of poisonous insert repellent everywhere, fly traps and hundreds of dead insects everywhere. We believed this to be the source of the smell which had been attempted to have been masked by 30 candles and air fresheners all over the house. In addition, there was a leak by the entrance underneath the black bench which we kept cleaning up and kept slipping on the tiles by the front door when the leak started up again. We opened all the windows and ran the air to try and get rid of the smell but it was clear that was not working. When we discovered the mold we left the next morning. In addition, the neighborhood was not disclosed and instead it says 3 miles from downtown but it doesn’t say that it’s in a really bad neighborhood known as Sheraden, one which is described to be one of the highest crime areas in all of the Pittsburgh area. We could not walk outside feeling safe. I attempted to contact HomeAway to take this house of their rental list as I fear the health repercussions from the mold and I have tons of pictures to prove it but they won’t do anything. Please take this seriously as there are some good reviews after our stay which was June 2018 but I can’t believe them to be true. I have never written a bad review on this website and do not feel badly as I hope to help another family avoid this place.

            Bad neighborhood, limited beds

The neighborhood is a bit sketchy. There were dirty diapers on the sidewalk. The house is very old and I’m not sure it could sleep 10 comfortably. We had 8 people: 4 couples, and one COUPLE had to sleep on the couch bc there are only three bedrooms. There is one bathroom which is very small, making it difficult for 8-10 people to stay here. Trent was very responsive but overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.

            4/5 Good

              Comfortable, family friendly house

We had a great stay at this home. I stayed with my 1 year old and Trent went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed including a full size crib and high chair. The home is large and clean, you can really see how much work the owner has and continues to put into the house for guests. The home is comfortable and the location is close to many of the city's sites. The only reason for 4 stars is the location. The neighborhood while quiet and residential is a bit rough. We felt comfortable there after a day, but were a bit worried when we first arrived. That said, it was quiet and you could tell many of the homes were being renovated, I am sure it is improving. Overall, great stay. I recommend the home.
