Neighborhood overview The North Side Neighborhood in Pittsburgh is one of the oldest and best ones! For many years, the North Side was not part of Pittsburgh. Allegheny City, as it was called, was its own municipality until 1907, when it was annexed by Pittsburgh. The annexation was ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court and was widely opposed by residents of Allegheny City. The North Side is a destination for families, history buffs, art lovers, sports enthusiasts and everyone in between! It is home to PNC Park the home of the Pirates, one of the top ballparks in the country as well as Heinz Field where the Steelers and Pitt Panthers play. If you’re not into sports, go for the concerts or simply to admire the incredible views and make sure to visit the larger-than-life Mister Rogers' Statue located near Heinz Field. There’s no shortage of art on the North Side. The Andy Warhol Museum features the work of the famous Pittsburgh-born artist, as well as work by other artists, film screenings, concerts and more. At the Mattress Factory, you’ll find a range of contemporary art and unique, site-specific installations by artists from around the world. And there’s Randyland, artist Randy Gilson’s home and Pittsburgh’s most vibrant piece of public art. The newest addition to the North Side's art scene is City of Asylum's Alphabet City, which bills itself as a home for writers, readers, and neighbors. It hosts readings and live music performances, writing workshops and artists residencies, as well as a Casellula Cheese & Wine Café and a great bookstore. Be sure to also check out the City of Asylum's homes on Samsponia Way where exiled writers are invited to stay. If you’ve got kids (or even if you don’t), head to the Carnegie Science Center and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, two incredible buildings filled with interactive, educational exhibits. Also check out the National Aviary, the country’s only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated exclusively to birds. For a more unconventional museum, try Bicycle Heaven. Part bike shop, part vintage bicycle museum, Bicycle Heaven lives up to its name. For entertainment, try the New Hazlett Theater, which presents a range of plays, music and other live performances in an intimate black box space. For big rock concerts, there’s the indoor/outdoor Stage AE. For smaller jazz and blues sets, try James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy. On Wednesday nights, head to the North Side Elks Lodge to sit in on the Pittsburgh Banjo Club’s wildly popular open rehearsals. For gambling enthusiasts, Rivers Casino boasts nearly 3,000 slot machines, over 100 table games and five restaurants. The North Side offers a variety of dining options, from authentic German fare at Max’s Allegheny Tavern to yummy noodles and curries at Nicky’s Thai Kitchen to tender ribs at Wilson’s Bar-B-Q. Other local favorites include Legends of the North Shore and Monterrey Pub. For coffee/tea check out Arnold's Tea and Common Place Coffee. For lunch Bistro to Go, and for your sweet tooth Priory Fine Pastries, and in the warmer months, grab an ice ball at Gus and Yia Yia’s iconic cart in West Park. Giant Eagle is located nearby, if you need to make a grocery store run. For locally made beer, grab a pint at Rivertowne or Penn Brewery, one of the area’s oldest craft brewers. If you prefer cocktails, swing by Wigle Whiskey’s new Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden for one of their unique local libations. Speaking of West Park, be sure to check out all the green space on the North Side. The 287-acre Riverview Park, which includes miles of wooded trails and the historic Allegheny Observatory, is especially striking. And hop on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail for a pleasant ride, stroll or run along the Allegheny River. In warmer weather enjoy kayaking from Kayak Pittsburgh on the North Side. The North Side is full of impressive architecture. It was laid out in 1788, and many of the buildings date from the mid-19th century and include some truly beautiful examples of Victorian architecture. History buffs will want to take a walk through the beautiful Mexican War Streets or stop to admire the Victorian houses in Deutschtown—both neighborhoods are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We know that you will enjoy your stay in the North Side an authentic, historic, sporty, artsy neighborhood with diverse and dynamic people. There's no where like it in Pittsburgh!

    Pittsburgh weekend

We enjoyed our stay in Pittsburgh. The house was a great idea of guest of 8 just remember there are stairs and they are a bit steep so may not be as easy on older knees as all rooms are a minimum of a flight. Definitely bring your own pillows. Downstairs furniture is just as other commented, works but not that comfortable if hanging there for long. Seems like the sofa you gotta readjust or you keep sliding off of it. Probably could use sofa and chair pillows. Only one permit for street parking. Yes you can park off of James street at hospital parking lot but at a price... first night is $22 - 25 dollars and if you don't move it $4 per day. Otherwise you pay the high price every time you come out of the lot.

      Very spacious & great location!

Stayed at this property for a girls weekend and it was a great experience! There is lots of room and it's great to have 2.5 bathrooms at our disposal with a group of girls. The deck is really nice and get's lots of sun during the day. Property manager was very friendly via Vrbo messenger and answered all of my questions promptly and accurately. Location is awesome: 9 minutes from North Shore and 20 minutes from Settlers Ridge. Easy to get an Uber for a night out. Only gave it 4 stars b/c: Living room furniture is a bit small and uncomfortable- could use a couple of larger sofas and a few more chairs, mattresses need updated and I wish the bathrooms had been a little cleaner. All small things that did not put a damper on our trip, but those details would have made this property surpass my expectations. Also, pictures on listing need updated.

        NCAA Wrestling Championship Stay

Some of my family and friends stayed at this property for 4 nights during the Wrestling Championships last weekend. The living area had plenty of room for all of us. We used the 4 bedrooms and everyone remarked at how well they slept and comfortable the beds were. 2.5 bathrooms were perfect for us. The kitchen was very nice with nice granite countertops and newer appliances. We even got to use the back deck for a couple hours on Saturday when the sun was out. Only upgrades we would suggest as others have would be the living room furniture. The sofa is not very comfortable but we made due and we are not very picky. We used the 4 kitchen and 2 side chairs often. The island made a nice mini-bar area for us and we enjoyed many laughs over some refreshments in the evenings. The water was hot for all 6 of us showering each morning and the temperature inside was perfect even in the upstairs bedroom. You may want to bring some extra bath and hand towels with you on your stay too (which we learned from another review). The kitchen was stocked very well with condiments and spices and cooking utensils. Location was great - only 30 minute walk to PPG Arena and close to some nicer restaurants on the North side. Communication from John was great and he was very helpful at answering questions and accommodating us during our stay. Highly recommend. We enjoyed our stay very much. Not a single complaint from anyone in my group. Would rent again. Thanks John! .

          Great Minimalist Space

Our group of girls needed a place near the heart of the city for the weekend. The house is lovely, spacious, and a quick Uber ride to the North Shore area. John is very responsive. There aren’t a ton of extra amenities in the house (kitchen had one partial roll of paper towels, only one bath towel was provided per bed, etc.), so be sure to pack your own. When we visited, the sliding back door appeared to not fit the frame and had a makeshift lock (a piece of wood at the door’s base), but it seemed relatively sturdy, and led to a deck with a high fence. Overall, the house was a great fit for what we needed!

            Location and cleanliness was good

Overall location for stay was great. Only issue was the furniture was not exactly comfortable. Other than that, great place and location. Owner was very responsive to all Questions.
