This was our first visit to Costa Rica, and I was a little hesitant about choosing this property because there were no reviews. It was a new listing to HomeAway, but traveling to another country, I was a little nervous. But we absolutely loved this house! Because reviews are always important to me in choosing a property, I will give the positives (many) and the negatives (few).
Positives: This home is gorgeous. The 3 bedrooms were great for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids, ages 17, 14, 12). The pictures shown are very accurate. The pool was great for the kids, especially after a day at the beach, and the views were unbelievable. A cleaning service comes every day to tidy up. Each house has an employee watching it until you get home, and they are all well lit, with motion sensor lighting. The concierge was quick to answer our questions both before (calls and emails) and during our trip. When we needed anything, they were quick to find it for us or send us in the right direction. Every interaction with Kahlia staff was professional and friendly. When we arrived, the kitchen was stocked with enough for breakfast. The breeze through the house was pleasant, especially in the mornings and evenings. The neighborhood is relatively new, so it is quiet (late afternoon and evening *see below) and private. We were 10-15 min from both San Juanillo Beach and Ostional Beach. San Juanillo is great for snorkeling and feels like your own private little beach, complete with a super-rustic beach bar. Ostional is a black sand beach....no shade, so best to hit this one early or late in the afternoon. If you hit it at just the right time, the sea turtles come here to nest. About 30 min drive to Nosara, where you can find cute shops, great restaurants and great surfing. Some great restaurants: La Luna, 10 Pies, Lagarta Lodge and Beach Dog Cafe are in Nosara.
Negatives: The roads in and around the area are pretty bad. Coming from the Liberia Airport, it's about a 2 hour drive, half of which is on bad caliche roads. We kind of enjoyed it (part of the charm), but some people may not. You must drive to the beach and restaurants. You won't be walking to anywhere from this house. *The neighborhood is new, and while we were there, they were building 11 different homes. It's not bad, but you can hear a little building noise.
Our whole family loved this house and our trip to Costa Rica; very happy that we chose this house for our first Costa Rica vacation!
