Secluded on the River, Historic 1815 House, Romantic Shepherdstown

Riverfront vacation home with kitchen and balcony
Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet by the Potomac river in this Historic 1800's stone house situated on 2.5 acres. Take advantage of all the activities on the river or in the surrounding area. Fish, canoe, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river. You can also bike or walk to historic Shepherdstown, WV. Watch the abundance of deer, birds, fox, and other wildlife by the river while enjoying a campfire. This historic home has a cozy modern addition with kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom, that matches well with the historic stone travelers Inn, right in the Shepherdstown suburb. Outside there is a large lawn backed to a wooded hill loved by birds and wild life. Just 200 feet to the river with 450 feet of river front, across the lightly traveled river road. A large fire pit and plenty of log seating overlooking the river. Sit quietly for a bit and you might catch a glimpse of river otters, deer, fox and many other wild life coming to the river. Across the river is the C&O national historic park and tow path hiking trail. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path with markers. The master bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed with CertiPUR foam mattress, with extra pillows. There is a walk in closet and full on suite bath. The large windows overlook the river and feature curtains and blinds so you can sleep in. Walk out to the balcony deck for even better views. Also upstairs in the old stone walled side is a large room with comfortable chairs and couch. The couch pulls out for additional sleeping on a comfortable Queen sized mattress. A desk with lots of lighting is a great place to do any work or emails and book case stocked with games and books to trade. The room is well lit and comfy for reading or board games. We have added a TV and DVD player with lots of family movies (but no TV service), for rainy days. Living room on the main floor of the stone house is equally large with overstuffed couch and love seat as well as rocking chair. You can really see the construction of the historic home in this room with exposed rough hewn beams and deep window wells. Amazon Alexa is here to help you with music, games, and information as well as turning on/off the lights ( remote switch as well by the door). This room was most likely the kitchen with the originally large cooking fireplace, now non-functional, but still striking. The Kitchen is bright with recessed LED lighting and under counter lights, a large modern table so groups can chat over meals and plan the daily events, while watching the river from the large window. Fully equipped with utensils, oven, microwave, and coffee maker. Off the kitchen you will find a powder room and full laundry. Full access to all living spaces, deck, parking area, all yard areas. Incredible property. Mix of modern luxury and historic charm. Ideal location on the river. Close in town.

        We loved it!!

I wish we could give more than 5 stars. The house is gorgeous! Pictures cannot do it the justice it deserves. You can feel the warmth and welcoming envelop you as soon as you walk through the door. We instantly felt at home. Everything is there for you. All you need to do is put your suitcases down and relax. The river is absolutely beautiful. You can walk down to the river's edge, you can sit on the bank, or you can watch it from the porches of the house. Wildlife abounds. A walk along River Road will take you through the history of the Battle of Shepherdstown. Shepherdstown is just a short drive away. It is a quiet, quaint town, with plenty of great restaurants and interesting shops. We completely unplugged for the week - no TV, no computer - and it was wonderful. We cannot recommend the Stone House enough! It is a fantastic place to enjoy and reconnect. We cannot wait to go back.

          Loved this little cottage

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was roomy, comfortable and really had a lot of charm. We spent a lot of time on the front porch with a beautiful view of the river. We did a lot of cooking, the kitchen is well equipped. Shepherdstown is a great little town, the people are friendly , lots of nice shops and restaurants. It's close enough to Washington for day trips, then back to the relaxed countryside, away from the crowds. Amazing amount of history in the area! Close to Antietam Battlefield and Harper Ferry. We just stumbled across this place and were delighted. It was one of the best vacations we had. We plan to come back!

Such a one of a kind house and such a great view from the top deck. We will definitely be looking for this place on our next trip to WV.
