    Lancaster's Lair

The property itself is a very nice setting but the lack of adequate water to accommodate the advertised occupancy for 8 was a serious problem. Five of us arrived on Wednesday afternoon and the last 3 did not arrive until late on Thursday evening. By Thursday evening, we noticed a significant drop in water pressure and in fact the 2nd level had almost no water that evening. On Friday is situation worsened to the point there was very little water at all. No one could bath and it was difficult to do any cooking. We notified the manager who told us the well was low and that we would have to stop using any water for 24 hours to allow it to recover. We specifically rented a house so we could be together in a home environment, cooking meals "at home" and enjoying time with each other. On Sunday we left the house to attend a family reunion nearby but given the water situation, 3 of our party left that afternoon. We were also not able to dispose of garbage outside as all of the cans were completely full with nasty, rancid trash from previous rentals. On Sunday evening the manager did have two bags removed but left the remaining trash, saying that Monday the regular trash pick-up would come by. It never did. In general the water and trash situation turned this into a very unpleasant visit. If there is not sufficient water capacity for 8 people, it should not be advertised for such. We did not use an inordinate amount of water and this situation should never have occurred. There were also numerous minor maintenance issues around the house that are not being addressed and the 4th bedroom is actually part of the basement where the closet contains the hot water heater and water treatment system; was not a pleasant room. While the area is very beautiful, we would not recommend this VRBO for any more than 2 or 3 people who do not plan on cooking or doing laundry. Also we were out by the check-out time of 11:00 a.m. but were charged for two hours waiting time for the cleaners.

Fun and low key summer get away

This was a great property for our family. It was roomy enough for 6 adults, with enough space for hanging out. The sleeping arrangements were very comfortable. It is a great house for family group activities, such as games or dinner. The scenery and surroundings were beautiful. We had fun exploring the area as well. We found access to the Cacapon river and splashed about, and went to the state park in town to the baths and spring. It was a really nice time.

          Lovely cabin!

Three girlfriends and I stayed 2 nights in this cozy cabin for a girls' get-away. It's location is in a very nice wooded neighborhood just across the street from Cacapon State Park. The spas in Berkley Springs and several restaurants were only 10 minutes away. The cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was very well stocked. Having the ping pong table was a bonus that we really enjoyed; however, new paddles are desperately needed. The owner was very easy to work with and always responded quickly.

There were live assertive mice that weren’t afraid to run right under our feet. When one friend took the sheets off her bed there was mouse poop on the comforter she slept with!
