Hotels in Lihue
For most people who come to Kauai, the city of Lihue is the first town they visit. It is home of the island's government buildings, malls, and many resorts and hotels. The Kauai Museum and associated art gallery, Grove Farm Homestead, and a number of home bases for Hawaiian adventure companies, can be found in Lihue.
The city is also home to the headquarters of iconic Hawaiian brands like Hilo Hatties and Red Dirt Shirt. Its central location on the island makes it a good place to stay for guests who want to divide their time between the tropical north, and the dry, sunny southern regions of Kauai.
Lihue Airport (LIH) is the major way on and off the island, outside of private airfields and boat terminals. There are a number of shuttles and buses that can be found to different parts of the island, both to the north and the south. Lihue represents a relatively central location between the popular beach regions like Hanalei in the north, and Hanapepe or Shipwreck Beach in the south of the island.
Hints and Tips
Weather in Lihue is temperate to warm year-round, though storms may come through with high winds and occasional hurricanes. To fully experience Hawaiian culture, head to the Coconut Coast, which hosts an exciting weekly Hawaiian arts market.
