      Room for the whole family!

This mid century home was large enough for our family of six. We even had a few more family members stop by, and we never felt crowded. While its condition was not perfect, everything is functional. There are just a few minor cosmetic blemishes, but they add to the character of the home. It's owned and managed by the Knoxville Heritage Society and generates income to keep up their other property, the Westwood, which happens to be just a few feet from the Matheny Cottage. You will want to schedule a free tour of the Westwood if at all possible at some point during your stay. You'll fall in love with the story of Amelia Armstrong Lutz, Knoxville's first professional female artist. The Matheny Cottage wont disappoint you. In fact, it will take you back to a time when things were a bit slower and life wasnt rushing ahead so quickly. We will be looking forward to our return.

        Interesting Residence Centrally Located

The house was massive but choppy. A tad run down but filled with character. It was located in the historic Westwood District next to a lovely restored historic home. Spacious and charming.

          Charming and historic home

We enjoyed our weekend at Matheny Cottage! This spacious home has all of the charm and quirks you would love and expect from a historic home. It was perfect for our gameday weekend, especially being so close to campus!

          4/5 Good

Great Location, great Knoxville History in a mid century home.

Still some remodeling work to do but great retreat for my 86 yo mom and the location in Knoxville could not be better. Perfect quiet evenings and the history of the Westwood estate is fascinating!
