Hotels in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach fronts the Pacific Ocean from its West Coast location of Orange County, California. Its spectacular waves have turned it into a mecca for surfers who have dubbed it "Surf City, USA." The best views of athletes hanging ten are from the Huntington Beach Pier, a concrete vantage point that's also popular with anglers. For a history of surfing, check out the International Surfing Museum and the names immortalized on the Surfing Walk of Fame.
Three airports are within a short distance of Huntington Beach, and the local hotel options. The closest is John Wayne Airport (SNA), about ten miles away. Long Beach Airport (LGB) is 17 miles from the city center and Los Angeles International (LAX), the biggest, is 36 miles away. A car is the easiest way to reach these facilities and to get around the city. Although parking is plentiful on the street, and at several downtown structures, spaces may fill up fast on warm sunny days.
Hints and tips
Once a settlement for the Gabrielino Indians, the city experienced its first boom in 1920 from oil. After the 1960s, people attracted to the mild climate moved in. Temperatures average in the upper 40s during winter, and low 60s in the summer, with a yearly range from the high 20s to the mid-80s. The city hosts several annual events, including the U.S. Open of Surfing and Beach Games.
