My wife and I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency Dulles for 4 of the last 5 years. We had made it a tradition for Valentine’s Day. It was, when we found it, a very nice hotel. This year, it become very unpleasant for us.
Construction on the room directly below ours started at 8:45am. The sound was non-stop, and sounded like a jackhammer was being used for something. Worse than the sound, though, was the dust kicked up into the ventilation system. I felt the effects, especially at night. My wife, who suffers from allergies and asthma, had trouble breathing throughout Valentine’s Day. I had them move us, and while that helped, the dust was still a problem. A better solution would have been to warn people about the construction, seal construction areas to contain the dust through the ventilation system, or offer to find rooms for guests with allergies at other hotels. It was especially disappointing that they went from offering hypoallergenic rooms to spreading construction dust.
The second issue: while we were enjoying the pool and the hot tub a young man showed up at the entrance to the pool, a door secured with room key access. He proceeded to strip to his underwear before joining us in the hot tub. He started video recording with his phone, and we believe he was recording my wife. I reported this to the front desk, and while they said they would treat the pool and hot tub, they showed no concern over who was getting access to the pool.
