    Moms getaway

We were looking for a quiet place to relax, and that is exactly what we got. The beds were comfortable, short walk to the canal and a cute little store with ice cream. Kids playground could use a little work (on hill and didn’t seem super secure) but we didn’t have the kids so we didn’t stress over it. Tons of property and space to spread out.

This property was very nice and had a relaxing atmosphere. Very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommend!

Sorry, we cannot recommend it as water-accessible for little kids

We had been looking for a weekend country place where some of the adults in our party could go to the theatre festival while some stayed back while kids played — alas, we cannot recommend this property. We were so NOT particular about the house as it was all location, location, location and once we got ahold of the owner we were led to believe that this property was water accessible. Yet, access to the river is via a tiny parking lot (and even that is down the road a few hundred feet) and a poured concrete boat ramp - and hey that is great if we were all adults or if we had a boat. One couldn’t even wade in it. The hot tub doesn’t cut it for little ones who shouldn’t be in there for more than a few minutes. *sigh* The deck was beautiful under the stars though and we came up with games for kids on the lawn. We couldn’t see the listing nor get an answer whether there was a grill - but there was so that was handy. Also, the listing stated to bring drinking water - and we did, but the property had plenty of drinking water nonetheless. Strange to have a modern bungalow with no potable water. Anyway, Catherine complained that we left a mess for her cleaning crew - and I found that really surprising as I have always left every property cleaner or as clean as I found it so that really rubbed me the wrong way. I guess the crew were annoyed that when we stripped all the beds we left the linens and the used towels NEXT to the tub instead of inside the tub, but I think that is the right thing to do as the tub was wet from showers. Also, I understand that even though we did all the dishes, wiped down the counters and table tops and swept the kitchen, the cleaners complained that I left a couple of dishes in the sink drying (sorry) and the dining room chairs in front of the coffee table where we were playing board games with kids. I get that we could have dried the couple of dishes, but I was too busy wiping down the toaster oven, getting rid of the crumbs and making sure the oven was clean. And I thought - hey, if this were my place I would have to look through the dishes anyway. Further, I left the chains out because after I swept under the table, I knew (or guessed incorrectly) they would want to mop under there. Well anyway, I cleaned like a demon and Catherine complained. In summary - NOT a good place for a busy family with high energy kids who love the water. But if you are older adults who don’t mind the neighbors partying all night —

    5/5 Excellent

    Great location.

Lovely house. Very quiet. Lots of great birds. Perfect location for hiking/biking the C&O canal. Short drive to get on the AT too. Very quick to get to Shepherdstown for restaurants. Hot tub on the deck was a nice bonus.
