This was my first VRBO experience so I wasn’t sure what to expect. We came to Cleveland for a relaxing getaway in a town we rarely get to. First, the pros:
-great location downtown, close to many different restaurants, bars, and the Arcade (walking distance!)
-great decorating in the apartment and it appeared for the most part clean and organized
-location is safe, with key card locks required to get in the main doors and a pin code to get into the main condo
And the cons....
-Walls seem to be paper thin. We could instantly tell that our neighbors were watching the Office. In the morning we would hear neighbors let their dogs out and a number of strange noises from the other condos. Honestly, it was difficult to sleep in which we were looking forward to.
-Weed smell. Some people may like this, but there was a distinct weed smell from the neighbors place leading down the hall to our place, and about every other hour it would seem to filter into the condo somehow.
-Bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen too small. Why would someone design the living room SO big but neglect the rest? Poorly designed layout.
-Lack of communication. Our host did not communicate the PIN or access code to the complex, and when we called he did not immediately answer. This left us standing outside our condo waiting and somewhat frustrated...
-TVs too small. I get it. You are in a big city why care about the TVs in your room but when we are killing time and have to squint really hard to see the TV it ruins the time together. Also, the remote in the bedroom did not work due to the batteries leaking acid and destroying the terminals in the control. Also, the TV area in the bedroom needs some work...too many dangling cables and just in general a bad setup.
-asking the guests to take out the trash and wash their dishes despite a dishwasher and laundry chute. These could all be done by the host after the guest has left and NOT the guest. I have never experienced this request from other services similar to VRBO. I understand some people are filthy but expecting the guests to take out the trash and do dishes makes it seem like less of a getaway from home. Also, have the common sense to line the trash bags before guests check in and put some sort of generic soap in the bathroom.
All-in-all, this was a great location but execution on the service and convenience was horrible. If some money was invested into the building/management this would be considered a top tier rental!
