Huge disappointment! We had eaten in the Nantahala Village restaurant on a previous trip to the area and greatly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We decided that the next time we were in the area, we would stay at the property. The place now looks abandoned. Something out of a Stephen King novel. The restaurant is closed. The grounds are unkept. Maintenance is unheard of. My husband fixed the toilet in our room. The constant leak of the shower should be an easy fix(replace the cartridge), but had been left unattended so long that the shower was irreversibly stained. Carpets were threadbare. Wood floors scratched and scuffed. We had paid for two nights, but left after the first because it was just creepy. Even the continental breakfast was strange. Not bad, just strange. POSITIVE POINTS: The inside public areas and our room were clean. The staff was for the most part friendly and appropriate. (Chloé was very sweet and helpful. And there was a hardworking woman whose name I didn’t get—small, long dark hair, who worked the breakfast and later was mopping floors.) Based on our previous experience and current expectations, we thought we were getting a good deal on a pleasant place through Hotels.com. Unfortunately, we feel like we paid too much and wasted our precious time off in a sub-par environment.
