Flights to Vancouver

International flights to Vancouver will land at the Vancouver International Airport. Consistently rated as the best airport in North America, and among the top 10 airports in the world, there is a large number of flights that go between Vancouver and Asian countries due to the proximity of the city to Asia in comparison with the rest of the country, and the large Asian population that makes up part of the city. Passengers from the U.S. who have arrived from their flights to Vancouver will discover that the airport uses a U.S. pre-clearance system for departing flights. The SkyTrain and public buses service the airport, with local cabs or rental car companies also widely available.

Vancouver Weather

Situated on the Pacific coast of Canada, Vancouver experiences a significantly milder winter than the rest of the country. Summer temperatures can soar over 30C, with the months between June and early September being the driest. Vancouver flights during the summer are ideal for lounging around the Kitsilano beaches. It is not advisable to book Vancouver flights during early spring due to the heavy rainfall. As with most Canadian cities, the early autumn is an excellent time for city-slicking. September and October yield explosions of fiery colours as the leaves change with the seasons. With all of the beautiful parks throughout the city and in the outlying regions, this is a great time for hiking and exploring the city.

Getting Around Vancouver

The TransLink metropolitan company provides public buses, the SkyTrain, and the SeaBus systems. The bus system is extensive and covers the majority of the main streets and residential neighborhoods. The SkyTrain connects downtown with outlying suburbs. The SeaBus covers some destinations around the False Creek district. A one-way bus ticket that is valid for 1.5 hours costs between $2 or $3, which can result in a rather inexpensive day if you rely entirely on the bus for transportation. If you are in the city center, the best way to get around is to walk or cycle. City-cycling has gained popularity throughout Canada's larger cities, with Vancouver leading the way. If spending the day about town on a bicycle, be sure to park in designated areas and secure your bicycle with a lock.

Vancouver Attractions
  • Visit the Vancouver Center district to view the harbor, explore the Vancouver Art Gallery, and experience the thrill of Granville Street's nightlife and restaurants. Discover the mix of haute couture and eclectic small boutiques along Robson Street.
  • Lounge on the Pacific beaches on the western side of the city, explore bookshops, admire the skyline and wander through the expensive residential neighborhood. Explore the seawall, Vancouver Aquarium and totem poles of Stanley Park.
  • Venture into the bustling, refurbished neighbourhood of Gastown, nestled between downtown and Vancouver’s eastside, filled with boutiques, restaurants and the summer's outdoor night-market in Chinatown. Delight in trendy fashion boutiques, cobblestone boulevards, and the Ming Dynasty-style Chinese garden.
  • Discover a fusion of ethnic restaurants and offbeat boutiques along Commercial Drive in East Vancouver. This is a hub of local art and festivals including the Japanese Powell Street festival, Vancouver's Fringe Festival, and Illuminares Lantern Festival.
  • Watch a BC Lions home game at the BC Place, catch a concert at Roger's Arena, or discover Science World in the Yaletown-False Creek area.
