Mexico City flights are routed through the Benito Juárez International Airport, located about three miles east of Mexico City’s center. International flights connect with major cities in the Americas and Europe. The Benito Juárez International Airport is Mexico’s busiest, with its Terminal 1 being the fourth busiest terminal in the world. United Airlines services most of the flights from the United States, servicing the departure cities of Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington. Flights to Mexico with Air Canada connect with the Toronto-Pearson Airport and Vancouver International Airport. Both airline arrivals are processed through Terminal 1F. Flights with British Airways, likewise processed through Terminal 1F, service flights to Mexico City from London’s Heathrow International Airport.

Mexico City Weather

Mexico City summers bring heavy rainfall, and winters can get chilly. Temperatures during March, April, and May are between 68°F and 86°F. Pricewise, this is the best time to visit. Mexico City vacations planned for May will catch the famous Cinco de Mayo celebrations. June, July, and August are Mexico City’s busiest months. For the best weather and most famous festivals, at a slightly higher cost, Mexico City flights should be planned for September to November. Mexico City is located at a much higher altitude than most North American urban centers. It takes time to adjust to the thinner air.

Getting Around Mexico City

Before or during your Mexico City flight, get familiar with the local bus route maps and directories. Mexico City has an extensive system of public transportation, including taxis, buses, and the Metro. Shuttle transportation into the city center is available from Terminal 1. The city’s districts are expansive, so the Metro or taxis are really the most reliable source of transportation. Metro routes in the downtown core are usually very packed, and first-time tourists would be better off not to use them during peak hours. You can explore some districts entirely on foot, with attractions being located in close proximity. There are several kinds of buses that will also get you around, including trolley buses and the Metrobus, operating on Eje 4 and Insurgentes Avenues.

Mexico City Attractions

Mexico City always entices visitors with its exciting attractions after they arrive on their flights to Mexico City:

  • Templo Mayor, located northeast of the Zócalo plaza, containing extensive and well-preserved artifacts found on the site of the ancient Aztec temple of Tenochtitlan.
  • National Palace, located east of Zócalo plaza, where visitors learn about Mexico’s contemporary governance and the historic systems which helped develop it to its current state.
  • Museo Nacional de las Culturas Populares, where visitors can explore the history of Mexico’s indigenous cultures in the Coyoacán district.
  • Chapultepec Castle, located at the top of a sacred Aztec hill in the Chapultepec District, boasts breathtaking stained glass, balconies, and castle grounds.
  • National Anthropological Museum, also located in the historic Chapultepec District, where visitors can explore the world-famous Aztec calendar stone and extraordinary Mayan artifacts.
