About this property

Ozark Mountain Paradise - Greers Ferry Lake - Moon Shadow Lodge

The perfect escape from civilization ... Moon Shadow Lodge is set deep in a primeval forest ... mystical and magical in all four seasons ... perfect for friends ... lovers ... honeymooners ... family reunions ... church groups ... business associates ... film makers and nature lovers. The Lodge rises out of the ground on a solid foundation of Ozark Native Stone with White Cedar Logs and huge insulated picture windows framing a panoramic view of beautiful Greers Ferry Lake. With 2800 square feet of interior floor space and 1800 square feet of decks and covered breezeways ... the Lodge has a total of 4600 square feet of enjoyable spaces ... like a giant treehouse. Turning left from scenic Alum Cave Road you will come upon the gated entrance to the Cascadia Wilderness ... framing an incredible view of Greers Ferry Lake ... 500 feet below ... with the Ozark Mountain Highlands rising in the distance. Here is where your adventure begins. After passing through the gate you will descend down Cascadia Pass ... through one mile of jungle like terrain ... steep and winding with panoramic views ... until you arrive at Moon Shadow Lodge and Water Step Cove ... a remote paradise ... almost famous. The Cascadia Wilderness is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and four wheeling with a network of woodland trails to explore ... along the lake ... through mountain passes ... and down deep, shady hollows ... bring your ATV ... let down the top ... put on a bandana ... and follow the trails any season you will have a blast. Be safe and respect the forest! Why travel overseas when you can enjoy an exotic and luxurious waterfront lodge... in the center of the USA! Disappear into the emerald forests of the Ozark Mountains ... hide out in the Arkansas Highlands ... remote, relaxing, luxurious and fun. The calming effect is amazing!! Become one with Nature! Enjoy the blazing summer sunsets, scarlet moonlights and stellar constellations ... listen to an incredible chorus of birds, insects, whispering winds, rustling leaves, lapping waves and trickling waters. On a clear night you should turn off the lights ... sit on the deck and enjoy the sensations. With a good camera, some good hiking or climbing shoes, a backpack, bug spray and a tall walking stick ... you will completely forget about your smart phone or tablet! The Lodge is nestled deep in a hollow between mountain and lake ... with a heavenly place to swim, fish, dive, boat ... or just relax on a big flat rock to catch the brilliant sunsets lighting up the sky. On either side of Water Step Cove lies Moon Shadow Beach ... with a beautiful view of Sugarloaf Island National Trail rising out of the lake to the east ... and the brilliant sunsets that slowly disappear behind Choctaw Ridge to the west. The soft shale beach is interspersed with stacks of wide flat rocks making it easy to step or dive into the clear blue water. Instead of sea shells ... here you can hunt for magical "Aetites," the Greek word for Eaglestones. These unusual looking stones ... a mixture of iron, sand and clay ... were once rented as magic amulets to pregnant ladies by sorcerers in ancient pagan times to protect their unborn child from the evil demoness with many names ... such as Lilith or Gello. Some stones are quite interesting, beautiful and useful as ashtrays or baby shower gifts. We also rent a 30 foot double decker party barge with a 140 horse engine capable of pulling a tube ... complete with an experienced boat captain ... to safely pilot your group to wherever you choose. The pictures fail to fully illustrate the beauty of the Lodge and it's incredible setting ... so we created a face book page for "Moon Shadow Lodge" where you can go to learn more about this special place ... or share photographs and post stories about your exotic experience in this Ozark Mountain Paradise. Greers Ferry Lake is huge ... over 40,000 acres spread across two counties with pristine waters, world class fishing ... and no recorded sightings of piranhas, sharks or crocodiles! A prior world record Walleye was caught not far from the Lodge ... and below the John F. Kennedy Dam on the Little Red River you will find world record Trout! To learn more about the lake check out this site: Let us know what you would like to do during your stay ... renting boats ... scuba diving ... guided fishing ... scenic tours ... party planning ... catering ... shuttling ... we can arrange it. Our goal is to make your stay unforgettable ... and if you find it difficult to leave ... we have 3 acre lots for sale on Paradise Lane and smaller lots on Alum Cave Road ... all with panoramic views of the lake, the mountains and the forest. Check out the map. I would be more than happy to take you on a tour. *Attention Movie Producers ... Come and scout out the many beautiful sites in the emerald forest surrounding the Moon Shadow Lodge. Big cliffs, waterfalls, overhangs, trails, forests and beaches are here to create beautiful scenes for your film project. Great house with a lot of potential and a great view and cove

Overall, the property was pretty great and I think we'd visit it again. The waterfront view and quiet cove for swimming was perfect for our group of 9. The house itself was also beautiful and we liked the layout for our two families. We did have a little bit of an issue with bats though....we found two dead in the house upon our arrival and then a third was flying frantically around the den later that night that we had to kill to stop. The owner was apologetic and overall it was not a dealbreaker. A fuse blew almost as soon as we got there and it caused the fridge, TV, and front lights to go out. The owner called his caretaker, Gene, who came the next morning and replaced the fuse but thankfully we were able to use alternate plugs to get power back for the fridge in the meantime. Our kids absolutely loved the game room downstairs but we were all pretty disappointed that it didn't have a television. It would have been nice to have had one there so that grownups could watch football (or whatever) upstairs and kids could watch movies downstairs. That seems like an easy fix. The kayaks, paddleboards and lifejackets were helpful and well used. I would love to see a new dishwasher installed. The one there is practically falling out of the wall/cabinet, filled with mildew, smells horrible, and does not properly clean. We rented the pontoon boat owned by the property owner, which was convenient. If you are looking for a fast boat to pull a tube though, this would not be the right boat. It was still fun for cruising around the lake and we enjoyed that. While we had four wheel drive and did not encounter any issues coming or going, our friends who came with us in a van almost didn't make it out. That's not the fault of the owner obviously, but should be taken into consideration before booking. If you don't have 4 wheel drive, don't chance it! You may make it down, but you likely won't make it back up! Overall, again, we enjoyed our stay and thought it was great for our group. A few small fixes would make it even better ;)

Beck review

My family and I really enjoyed the relaxing week at the cabin. The location was great. Your one neighbor up the road was helpful and courteous. The house was as advertised. The only minor thing I would like to point out, is that the back decks and walls need to be pressure washed and given a healthy dose of insecticide. There was one loose eave board above the main back door above the grill where there was a healthy wasp infestation. I sprayed it down pretty good with wasp spray but not sure how effective that was overall. None of this was a problem, just pointing it out for improvement. Overall the house and location were great. Thanks Dugan for being easy to get a hold of. Joe Beck

Beautiful escape!

The roomy, rustic lodge was amazing! 2 fireplaces, gameroom with foosball, pool, and ping pong. Beautiful scenery. Dugan is super friendly, helpful, and always happy to answer questions or give suggestions for things to do. Great place to bring 4 wheelers or side by sides. It’s at least 15 minutes down the mountain to get to the lodge. If it’s rainy, you will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for sure. Sits right on a cove of Greer’s Ferry lake. LOVE the porch swings on the bottom deck and the main deck has an amazing view of the lake. Highly recommend if you want a real get away!

Awesome spot right on the lake!

It was an amazing location, with a near perfect place to call home for the weekend. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again if in the area. Amenities similar to a 5 star resort.

Great place pictures don’t do it justice

We would definitely stay here again. Plenty to do even during winter, plus the house is so inviting we could of just stayed inside playing games and hanging out.
