    About this property

Beachfront Family Friendly Home. Close to Town!

Of celtic origin, the “quay” (pronounced “key”) is a solid structure built next to a body of water. More importantly, the quay is our favorite bar in dublin, ireland, and now the name of this lovely summer rental. Beaver island is the perfect place for a summer escape. Surrounded by the pristine waters of lake michigan, your arrival on beaver island will put you in a place that takes you back in time, slow, peaceful and beautiful. Time slows down, and you can enjoy a leisurely stroll or a drive through mainly unpaved roads (just don’t forget to wave at the people you pass!). The quay has everything one could want or need to enjoy a wonderful vacation on beaver island. Our home is situated on three acres of island property, has a gorgeous view of lake michigan and is located just outside of the harbor on the northeast side of the island. It is a quick 5 minute drive (or 15 minute bike ride) to the town and public beach, where you can also access a number of restaurants and the famous daddy frank’s ice cream shop. The quay has three bedrooms and comfortably sleeps 10 people. The main floor has two bedrooms (each equipped with a queen bed) and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom enjoys a private master bathroom, tv and satellite, and a sliding glass door leading to the spacious deck. The main floor also has a large laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer. The kitchen is on the main floor and is fully equipped including a dishwasher and microwave. It is open to a spacious eating area and family room (including tv and satellite) and a lovely bay window area where you can enjoy breakfast or game time. Comfortably seat 10 for eating between the kitchen and bay area. A large deck wraps the house and sits above the water with terrific views of the lake, a great spot for morning coffee and leisurely meals. You will enjoy boats going in and out of the harbor, including the beaver island ferry, which passes by multiple times per day during the summer. The basement also has a large family room with a pullout couch and a third bedroom that has a full-size bed and twin bunk beds. Additionally, there is a third full-size bathroom in the basement. You can walk out through the basement garage to the ground level where you are steps from the water’s edge. The front yard has plenty of space for games and also has a fire pit down near the water for s'mores and your overall enjoyment! This is the ideal location for a large family group or three or four couples or a group of friends. Make the quay your perfect home for your vacation on beaver island! More information on beaver island: beaver island is the largest island in lake michigan and part of the beaver island archipelago. Beaver island lies approximately 32 miles from the city of charlevoix on the mainland, and can only be reached by air (20 minute flights via island airways or fresh air) or boat (leisurely two hour ferry ride via beaver island boat co.). The ferry can also bring your automobile over to beaver island for your stay. Beaver island includes miles of beaches, trails for hiking and biking and seven inland lakes for leisurely fishing. The island also has a golf course and numerous beaches where you can walk on the beach or go for a swim. You and the family can enjoy beautiful sunsets, roast hot dogs and marshmallows on an open fire, and marvel at the stars which shine so brilliantly without the outside distraction of city lights. Explore beaver island to climb mt. Pisgah, find the “big rock” or the “big tree,” visit neighboring uninhabited islands, or just lay back and do nothing. Good restaurants and nightlife in the village pubs is also an option. We hope you enjoy the island as much as we do!

    Quiet, Secluded, Peaceful

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful get away, this could be the place for you. The house is located down a secluded road and driveway. Woods separate you from the neighbors (can see and hear them on one side but it still has a secluded feel). There is plenty of room for a family to spread out. The deck and the bench near the water are perfect spots for a morning cup of coffee. The dining area is also a great spot to look out over the water and watch the boats come in and out. There are two kayaks which is awesome. There are also two bikes but both needed air in the tires and we could not find an air pump :-(. We took an Island Airways plane to the Island, which is an good experience all its own. The Island Airways folks were very friendly and I would recommend the plane for those who don't want the long ferry ride. Also, the ferry does not run on some days (check the schedule before you book your trip). Our trip was in mid-September and a lot of the businesses on the Island were shut down for the season. However, my wife and I had a good time just exploring the Island and relaxing in the house. A couple of things prevent me from giving a 4 or 5 star rating. The first is the cleaning. When we arrived there was trash in the trash cans, crumbs on the counter, and the floors were in desperate need of sweeping & mopping. The person who cleans did stop by on our second day on the Island and my wife is convinced she forgot which day we were scheduled to arrive and thought she was there to clean. Also, bringing your own linens is an inconvenience (this is the 1st VRBO I have stayed at that did not supply linens). Also, the living room carpet is very stained (not a big deal but could use a cleaning). The other issue we had was the house was full of some type of gnat or drain fly. The kitchen literally had a cloud of these flies over the sink. Overall, it was a good experience but not my best trip with VRBO.

    Beautiful home and property

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Quay for our girls weekend. The home is lovely and the property was the perfect mix of privacy and accessibility. We loved spending time on the large deck and at the fire pit. We swam and used the 2 kayaks every day. Owners were very informative and responsive to questions. Would stay there again in a second!

    Beautiful, spacious and family-friendly

My family (2 adults, 5 kids ages newborn-10) stayed for a week and highly recommend the home, lot and owners. The lot/location - private and shady. At the end of a long private drive surrounded by tall trees, it was a perfect backyard for our family, with a little sandy beach, lovely chairs/fire pit setting, and a bench out on a little pier. So much outdoor space, especially when you include the huge deck and wrap around porch! You can see 1 neighbor house when you are on the lawn closer to the beach but it’s a nice house and also surrounded by trees, so still feels private. The location on the east side near town meant beautiful sunrises and easy drive or doable walk to town. House - we spent a lot of time inside due to rain and a newborn, but the many windows overlooking the lake made it still feel like we were enjoying the outdoors. I especially loved the master bedroom view and the large dining room table view. And it was a joy to cook in the kitchen with that view! Since we have family on the island, we had visitors for dinner, and it never felt cramped. So much seating. The master bedroom was a highlight - comfortable bed, elegant decor and beautiful bathroom. Our older kids used the finished basement and it was great to give them their own space. Strong WiFi & landline were appreciated. Owner - very responsive before and during stay. Summary: Great property for a family or group. Despite my husband having to leave our vacation early due to an injury, the family-friendly nature of this house made me still feel like I was on vacation!

Perfect place for family and friends to relax and get together. Close enough to town and secluded.

First time visit to Beaver Island for my sons wedding. His bride grew up visiting Beaver Island with her family and wanted to share the island with all of her loved ones and new family members! Great spaces in this house and beautiful views and waterfront. Would love to come back again and again!

    Another Great Stay!

Once again, the Quay proves to be a perfect place to spend time with friends and family, while both relaxing and exploring on Beaver Island. House is in great shape and clean. Kitchen equipped with everything you need to make meals.Comfortable beds. Plenty of outdoor space and seating to enjoy that beautiful view of the lake. So fun to watch the ferry come in and out. Great location close to town and restaurants. We'll keep going back as long as the Weber's make their home available.
