    About this property

Starry, Peacetful Nights at Beautifully Restored Farmhouse - Pets Welcome!

Historic farm stay in Bar Harbor
Lovingly restored 1890 farmhouse at Wild Iris Farm is now available as a wonderful, unique vacation home for your family or a cozy, secluded nest for couples! It features a large, modern farmhouse kitchen with dining area that seats 8, living area with cable TV/DVD setup and adjacent den with a game table and a chaise to lounge on and read/nap for those who like some quiet time. Bedrooms are located on the second floor along with a full size bathroom. The master bedroom is large and has a queen size bed, dresser, closets and cable TV/DVD TV, and lots of windows that lookout onto green pastures. The guest bedroom also has a queen size bed, closets, dresser, desk with windows that overlook the stables. The third bedroom is quite large and has a 3 bed bunkbed set up plus a full sized bed and dresser - this room can sleep 5. Lots of room for kids to play and a DVD TV and children's books. The Farm also has a port-a-crib for very young guests. The laundry area is also located on the 2nd floor. There is a new washer & dryer both of which hold large loads. The Farm provides laundry soap and dryer sheets. The Farm is located on the Crooked Road in the quiet countryside, just minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (The property borders the park!) so guests enjoy quiet and peaceful days and star-studded nights. The farm features 35 acres of lush, green pastures and dense forest. It is available during the summer (May-October) and winter (December - March) . It is a working farm which means that livestock (horses, goats and chickens) live on the farm and are cared for by farm staff. The staff is also responsible for maintenance of the farm pastures and buildings. All livestock and staff activity does not impact the farmhouse and it's guests although guests are welcome to help with farm chores and/or follow the staff along as they work. Some guests prefer to just enjoy viewing the horses in the pastures and having farm-fresh eggs for breakfast! All enjoy the open vistas, fresh country air and quiet atmosphere. The Farm has a couple of barns and farm animals that your family can pet, feed and engage with in daily farm activies with along with the help and guidance of a farm staff member! Draft horses (Shires), goats, chickens are all "residents" of the farm! Farm staff offers carriage rides during the week to those who are interested in seeing some of Bar Harbor's countryside via a horse drawn carriage. The Farm has a private hiking trail that connects to Acadia National Park. Guests follow a beautiful forest path to reach Lakewood Pond, a popular local swimming "hole" that's part of Acadia National Park ! All of our guests rave about this amenity. The front yard of the farmhouse features a fire pit where guests can make s'mores and try to capture fire-flies. In the late spring, one can hear the "peepers" calling out to each other from the wetlands - a very soothing sound. There is also a vegetable garden where guests are encouraged to partake of in-season produce. The Farm's location means both sides of Mount Desert Island are only a very short car ride away. The main entrance to Acadia National Park is just one mile away! The park offers many adventures including hiking, biking, rock climbing, ranger educational sessions and much more. Many of our guests rise early to drive to the summit of Cadillac Mountain to observe the rising sun - at some times of the year, Cadillac is the first place in the US to see the sunrise! The island, itself, is a wondrous place to explore. It features quaint small towns, gorgeous shoreline and a multitude of things to see and do. Summertime Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park offer visitors a variety of summer activities, including golfing at a PGA course, hiking, biking, boating, lake swimming, carriage road walks, hikes. Downtown activities include shopping, dining, whale watch tours, nature cruises, sea kayak tours, early evening concerts on the village green. We also recommend a visit to the Abbe Museum - a member of the Smithsonian that offers magnificent displays of native American arts and crafts, St Saviors Episcopal Church for it's beautiful Tiffany stain glass windows, Jessup Library-a old-time library with balconies and shelves of books, books on tape and DVDs. The are many excellent eateries and bakeries to choose from as well as a well stocked grocery store and an organic food store. Bar Harbor's Sunday farmer's market which features local organic produce is a must visit. Visiting during the winter months? During the winter, snuggle in front of the woodstove fire while sipping hot cocoa as you watch the snowflakes drift down (Farm staff takes care of all snow removal). Go cross country skiing or snow shoeing on Acadia National Park's groomed carriage roads, take a peaceful hike through snow covered forests or go sledding on the farm's hilly snow-covered pastures. Roast marsh mellows over a fire pit blaze. There is a nice deck on the front of the house, overlooking the pasture areas and green lawn and garden. The deck railing has beautiful flower planters during the summer months. A gas grill occupies one corner, a large round picnic table seats 8 and there are two rocking chairs which offer a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee. Amenities include 2 cable TVs (living room and master bedroom), WIFI, DVD/Blueray player, gas BBQ grill, outdoor picnic table on front deck, washer/dryer, dishwasher, gas/electric stove/oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, microwave, pack n' play. Note: there is an A/C unit in kitchen, ceiling fans in all rooms but, even in August, our nights can be cool. Winter guests have the use of 2 woodstoves - one in the kitchen, the other in the den as well as a Renai propane heater. Pets are welcome (there is a pet fee). We just ask that pets stay off furniture and beds and that their waste is picked up (we provide poop bags). When available, the owners will also leave a dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge for your arrival! A small basket of local goodies and a vase of fresh flowers will greet you. During blueberry season, your host just might surprise you with homemade blueberry muffins! Wild Iris Farm is truly a unique and special location for your vacation. Younsters and adults alike will have a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable vacation . Our goal is to make you feel at home as soon as you open the front door. Check out our reviews - all of our 2017 & 2018 guests gave us a 5 star rating! Wild Iris Farm is also the only place we know of where you can BRING your horse(s) with you on your vacation. Ask us about bringing/boarding your own horse. You should note that animal caretakers will be at the property (barn and pasture area) in the a.m. and later in the afternoon to feed and care for the animals. Amazing vacation spot

We had an amazing experience with our toddler on the farm. The house is beautiful, comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully stocked in every way. Sandi goes above and beyond as a host and ensures you have everything you need (we faced a possible power outage due to a wind storm and she ensured we were well-prepared beforehand). We truly felt at home here. The house was more than just a place to leave our stuff and sleep - it was an integral part of the joy of our vacation. The ability to hike into Acadia from the house was great for those times when gathering ourselves into the car to drive somewhere was too much - it was the perfect distance for our toddler and she loved exploring the nature along the way. Our daughter was mesmerized and endlessly amused by the goats, horses, and chickens. The house is located only a few minutes from Hulls Cove VC and town, making it the perfect home base for exploring the island in any direction. It was such a wonderful experience for all of us, and we look forward to visiting again! Thank you, Sandi!

        Fantastic Vacation

We had a great time staying at the farmhouse with our dog and 2 horses. The house is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and spacious. The location is perfect because it is quiet and feels far away from the bustling downtown of Bar Harbor but is only a few minute drive from Acadia National Park and downtown. We can't wait to book again next year.

            Wild Iris Horse Farm

This farm house was very comfortable with everything we needed. The furnishings were nice and beds were comfortable. The farm location allowed us to bypass Bar Harbor if we were going hiking or touring around the island but in ten minutes we could be in town. We had smores around the fire pit in the yard and the night sky was amazing. We really enjoyed our stay.

            5/5 Excellent

              Quiet and relaxing.

The property was the most well stocked house I have stayed in. The property owner was very nice and responsive to our needs. The house is clean. It’s also quiet but close enough to everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Sandi.
