Romantic cottage in Mount Desert with spa tub
Heavenly Days Cottage, overlooking Somes Sound, was featured on 'Around the World in 80 Homes' on The Fine Living Channel in October, 2004. It was built in 1895 and completely renovated in 1995 with special attention to restoring all its original details, including woodwork, hardwood floors, turn of the century slate sink, etc. This Victorian home still carries a flavor of early Maine while offering modern comforts and beautiful views of Somes Sound and the mountains of Acadia National Park. For example, a modern hot tub sits on the original 315 sq ft wrap-around covered porch facing Somes Sound, maximizing the view. The cottage is decorated with beautiful yet durable antiques. Comfortable and casual, it's like taking a step back in time to yesteryear in coastal down east Maine! On the first floor, you'll find the kitchen with various collections of antique kitchenware, an antique Hoosier, butcher-block counter top as well as all the modern comforts of home. The dining room provides seating for 6-8 and the living room offers great views of the Sound and access to the covered wrap-around porch. The second floor offers 3 bedrooms with 1 king and 2 double beds. The deck off the master bedroom boasts panoramic views of Somes Sound and the surrounding Acadia National Park mountains. Sit in the hot tub on the covered porch and watch the sailboats and lobster boats float by. You may even see lobster fishermen and women hauling their traps right in front of the cottage while you drink your morning coffee. Heavenly Days Cottage is tucked at the end of a private road with only 3 other cottages in sight. With sloping lawn to the water's edge, the cottage is situated approximately 250ft from the shore of beautiful Somes Sound, the only natural fjord on the east coast. Extensive granite stonework, including a patio, rock walls, granite steps and pathways, complement the dramatic changes in landscape from mountain to ocean. A fire pit (firewood provided) near the shore is just one more way to enjoy all this cottage has to offer. Located on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island, the cottage is still within minutes of all that the island has to offer. Convenient to Echo Lake and many hiking/climbing trails of Acadia National Park.
Guest accommodations at this cottage offer DVD players and coffee/tea makers. Rooms open to balconies or patios. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, microwaves, and separate dining areas. Bathrooms include showers and hair dryers.
This cottage features a spa tub.

      Amazing stay on Somes Sound

My wife and I really enjoyed our time in the Hall Quarry neighborhood, with excellent views of Somes Sound, Norumbega and Sargeant Mtns., and a well-cared for home that was clean and inviting. Proximity to both sides of the island is ideal. Property Managers were very helpful every step of the way, and extremely thoughtful. This is an incredible location, with a lot of history as part of a company (or companies) town dating back to the mid-to-late 1800s. The house is small and comfortable, and from another era--with a beautiful soapstone kitchen sink and antique flourishes throughout. This is NOT for people who prefer the modern touch. Minor downsides that will not affect every renter the same way: It's not completely private, as there is a driveway that runs through the middle of the property of a full-time local resident. Also: first floor bathroom can be a challenging get-to in the middle of the night, as all bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. All this being said, we would rent here again, because of the great views and access to all hiking. Many thanks to the owner and property managers for all that you did to make our stay enjoyable!

        Truly heavenly

My wife and I were privileged to stay at Heavenly Days Cottage for two heavenly weeks. It was just wonderful. The cottage is very clean, tidy and well-kept, and the owner is nearby and very courteous - he stopped by one day to briefly say hi. The kitchen appliances all work just fine, and there's a grocery store 5 minutes away, right down the road on the way into Southwest Harbor. The location is amazing - you will wake to rosy-fingered dawn creeping over the dark mountains to lighten the wine-dark sea in Somes Sound. If you want to explore, the park is minutes away. If you want to stay home, relax on the porch, or in the chairs on the lawn by the water, or in the hot tub right on the porch. Southwest Harbor is 5 minutes away, for breakfast and dinner at Eat a Pita, or a late lobster lunch at Beals' Dock, down by the Coast Guard Station (10 minutes away). It was perfect. Enjoy!

          Heavenly indeed!

This is the absolute quintessential beautiful Maine Cottage. Appointed with the spirit of the late 1800's when the cottage was built, but with all the modern comforts you could want. We had an absolutely blissful stay, and the view is so peaceful and beautiful, you will never want to leave. I know we didn't want to leave!

Quaint and Clean Cottage - Picturesque

The Cottage was exactly as pictured, clean, and orderly. We timed our stay to coincide with autumn foliage, and the views from the Cottage did not disappoint! The balcony off the master bedroom was spectacular in the morning. The hot tub was perfect and very much needed after long days of hiking and cycling. We had the luxury of not cooking and instead sampling several great restaurants and lobster pounds. But the kitchen appeared well-stocked. The owners were helpful, accessible and very responsive to comments and feedback. A few things to note for larger parties (we were only 2): there is only 1 bathroom, located on the first floor, with limited space. The washer and dryer are outside on the porch- not a problem in summer or fall. Overall, the Cottage was charming, location was perfect, and I would definitely rent it or another property on MDI run by the owners.

Great location and everything you could ask for in a quaint cottage.

Cozy cottage on the water. Gave us the feel of being in Maine. Had everything we needed to cook, relax, and enjoy Maine.
