Hotel Rubens - Grote Markt

Amazing location. Lovely hotel and fantastic rooms and staff

Hotel has a great location and is very nice looking. When we checked in the room though, we were met with a terrible fecal smell from the shower. We notified the desk, who assured us it would be taken care of before we returned from dinner- it was not. The night clerk told us this is a common problem there and sprayed bleach down our drains and air freshener in the room- we slept w the windows open and the smell faded by morning. The next days were fine, however upon check out we requested a cab for evening to get to the train station. We confirmed with the desk manager 3 times that he had reserved a cab. We returned to collect our bags and meet the cab- only to be told by the new desk manager that the first guy never followed through - and there were no cabs available for 30 minutes- too late to go get to our train. So we grabbed our 4 very large bags and ran 20 minutes to the train station over stone streets. We barely made it, but had we been older or traveling w children we would have certainly missed our train. I notified the hotel management and have yet to receive a follow up. This was a very disappointing stay at a potentially nice hotel
