Salt Lake City

Your Salt Lake City vacation

With its snow-capped mountains melting into vast green plains, you can see why pioneer Brigham Young ushered Salt Lake City into existence with the simple pronouncement that "this is the place." Brigham and his fellow Mormons literally put SLC on the map, and their influence is still felt everywhere from the striking Salt Lake Temple to the This is the Place Heritage Park. Add to that an effervescent arts and sporting culture that is both varied and inexpensive.

  • Salt Lake City highlights
  • Temple Square

You can watch for free on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.

  • Great Salt Lake

The largest saltwater lake in the western hemisphere, Great Salt Lake is a must-see on your Salt Lake City travels. Achingly beautiful, one of the main attractions here is Antelope Island which features a wealth of wildlife. Boating on the lake is a popular pastime, although sudden storms can make it a tricky proposition.

  • Fort Douglas Military Museum

From armored vehicles to massive, old cannons, the Military Museum is exploding with artifacts about America's military exploits -- even down to the classic regimental attire. Best of all, the Fort Douglas Military Museum is free.

  • Red Butte Garden Trail
