* Just a few steps away from the Seine, surrounded by art galleries, museums, antiques shops as well as the most prestigious fashion boutiques, The Madison Hotel is a unique address...The professional and attentive staff is eager to make guests feel like "home away from home". Built in 1925, the Madison Hotel has an elegant facade on the Boulevard Saint Germain and a history that is tied up with that of this literary area. This is where Camus wrote "The Outsider", and the area has been the haunt of countless famous people ' the Cafe de Flore ist just across the Boulevard.Part of the Maurice Hurand hotel group since 1984, the hotel features 54 traditional, elegant rooms, each with its own different ambiance and decor. With two lounges in different styles, sunny colours and a certain eclecticism, the mainly traditional style of the Madison is complemented by a happy, refreshing informality. All different, all traditional and subtly rich-looking, the bedrooms vary in tone, sometimes understated, sometimes romantic or inspired by Provence, as with the suite on the top floor. The rooms either overlook the Boulevard Saint Germain, or a little courtyard from the third floor upwards. They are well soundproofed. The top floors enjoy lovely views across Paris. The bathrooms are covered with either coloured glazed tiles (brown, burgundy, red or beige) or Italian tiling in soft colours. Most bathrooms have bathtubs with modern tap fittings.Much of the furniture comes from antiques markets, as well as the paintings and fine, light charcoal drawings. The hot and cold buffet breakfast is served in a room in the style of a Provencal kitchen, which opens onto the ground-floor dining room. A very wide choice is on offer, from fruit juice, fresh fruit and fruit salad, small pots of jam and mini pastries, to cold meats, a wonderful cheeseboard, scrambled eggs with cold cuts, pancakes and a variety of other items.

Best time to take a vacation to Paris

  • Best Time to Go

The best time for Paris vacations is during the summer. Because summer is the peak season, expect to book your hotel and flight early. The perks of summer Paris travel include events like the Fete de la Musique festival and the sales season all round. The wintertime may not be a favorite in terms of weather, but airline and accommodation prices are at its best, and you can still visit tourist attractions while avoiding the crowds.

Insider tips for Paris travel

  • Seine

Take a boat tour along the river Seine for great views of Paris’ city architecture.

  • Louvre Museum

Visit the Louvre museum that houses the most amazing antiquities and artwork in the world, from the famous Mona Lisa portrait to the statue of Venus de Milo.

  • Parisian Nightlife

Want to check out the Parisian nightlife? Check out Menilmontat and Gambetta, nestled around Oberkampf and Belleville. Its bars are still relatively clear of tourists and offers affordable pricing.

  • Les Halles

Treat yourself to the great food and wines at Les Halles. With a unique array for your palate, such as the Basque country trout with avocado and coriander flowers, and a basement filled with the best wine selections, prepare yourself for a treat to remember.

  • Historical Monuments

With more than 3800 historical monuments to its name, expect to be enchanted by ancient structures like the cathedral Notre Dame de Paris, built circa 12th century and the Tuileries Garden, located near the Louvre and the banks of Seine.

Paris highlights

  • Paris highlights
  • Art museum discounts and free admission days

While having a Paris Museum Pass in your arsenal will save you money (unlimited visits to over 60 museums) and time (skip the long lines), you may want to center your art hops around free admission days. The Louvre, Musee d'Orsay and Centre Pompidou are free on first Sundays. (Better still, some of the city's masterpieces are on display in Paris churches at no cost.)

  • The Eiffel Tower

You can splurge on an elevator ride to the top, but if you're willing to take the stairs, you can reach the 2nd level for only a few Euros. Then again, the best things in life really are free: View the tower at night when it sparkles each hour with thousands of glittering lights.

  • Notre-Dame Cathedral

Discover flying buttresses, relics and artwork inside Notre-Dame at no charge. But for that priceless gargoyle's-eye-view of the city, visit on first Sundays from October through March when climbing the North Tower is free.

  • Free ice skating rinks

Lace up for the temporary rinks set up at the Hotel de Ville and the Gare Montparnasse each winter. Pay a small fee for skate rentals, and then glide with a clear conscience: Admission is free.

  • Free concerts and music performances

Music is everywhere in Paris churches, from choral practices and Masses to full-blown classical concerts. Pew-hop to performances in La Madeleine, St-Germain-des-Pres, Saint-Eustache or Notre-Dame – many of which are free. Check with church websites or the Paris Tourist Office for event listings. But if jazz, electronic and rock get your toes tapping, visit during the annual La Fête de la Musique (June 21) when Paris streets and cafés come alive at sundown.
