Funky but special place
At first glance this hotel looks old and need of paint, but the gardens are beautiful and the Caribbean beach setting is phenomenal. The bar staff is great and food above average ,,Get the whole snapper or the Baby Back Ribs. There is a 'special energy" in the place for open minded people...its a Hotel California but with a good vibe. my ONLY COMPLAINT Is I got me the room for $199 and the going online rate the day i showed up was $109!!!!!

Perfect for Us!
While this hotel was within walking distance of the airport and planes were heard regularly, the beach was absolutely one of the best (we checked out others), the bar & restaurant were terrific, and the staff incredibly warm and friendly. Since my husband couldn't be with us and it was just my son and me, we didn't need a fancy resort, so this was perfect-- excellent "basics", giving us the freedom to go and see other places.

Great location & staff, but pretty bare-bones
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week. We didn't want to spend money for a fancy resort, but wanted to be on a nice beach, and I'm convinced we chose the right spot! Lindbergh Beach is fabulous! It's sandy all the way out and is the perfect swimming beach--we saw maybe a couple of jet skis, but there's next to no water activity in that bay, which was a huge plus for me. The beach is usually fairly uncrowded, except when a cruise ship comes in. In addition to the Beachcomber's bar, there's another beachfront bar at the Emerald Beach Resort just a short walk down the beach. Most of the time there are chairs available on the beach, but sometimes you have to find one of the workers to unchain them for you, which was no big deal. Being right next to the airport, you get a lot of airplane noise, but it didn't bother us. The staff here was wonderful. We got in late at night when the office was closed, so we used their phone to call for assistance and the owner came out promptly to let us into our room. The room is pretty basic--it's like staying in a Motel 6 essentially. However, the room was clean, everything worked fine, and we didn't have any bugs in our room. The The rooms are pretty old and outdated, and bothered my allergies a bit (dust mites). They offer Wi-Fi, but it's hard to get a signal from the room, so sometimes I had to go outside in order to use it. The girl at the front desk was helpful and friendly, as were the other workers. The Beachcomber's bar was our favorite part! The food and drinks are great, and it's a popular spot for locals. The bartender Dean gave great service, and he was often helped out by the owners. We met 4-5 locals that we became friends with for the week. One of them, Dwight, even took us around the island sight-seeing in his own car. Caribbean hospitality at its finest! We took a snorkel cruise that was based out of Sugar Bay, and when we got there we were amazed about how their beach paled in comparison to Lindbergh--it was maybe 1/5 of the size but had 5x the number of people on it! Glad we stayed here and would return anytime.

Decent Stop over
This is the second year that we have stayed at the Beachcomber as a stop over on our way over to another island. The rooms are in pretty bad shape and are in need of a MUCH needed rennovation. On our return from another island we got to our room which felt like 100 degrees since the A/C had not been turned on and there was no toliet seat on the toliet!! REALLY?? The next room they put us in had one light working in the bathroom and the faucet handle fell off and you had to place it back on. For $150.00 which I realize is cheap for beach front in St. Thomas you should at least get working parts in your room. The BEST part of the stay was Maura who oversees the bar and cooks; the food there was amazing and she is so special. On our way back home she knew it was our Anniversary since we chatted with her on on way to JVD and she got us a cake!! Her meatballs are fantastic!! We would only stay there again because of Maura.

Good for those on a budget
Pros: Beautiful Beachfront Great Food Good Happy Hour Deals Friendly front desk and restaurant/bar staff Cons: Run down hotel...even with an upgraded bathroom vanity that was poorly installed. The shower was worn out and needed a new surround. If they would just put money into doing some updating, it would be a more comfortable experience -I was given exactly 2 bath towels, 2 washcloths, and I handtowel for three adults. It took two phone calls and two hours to get housekeeping to respond, and when she asked how many towels, I said 4, to which she promptly told me I could only have two...ridiculous! -Towels were a nice shade of yellow, till I realized they were once white -Roaches...Roaches...Roaches. I slept with the lights on -Hotel on the beach and not a single beach chair was out to use, they were all chained up and staffing was scarce...also this hotel is right next to the public access. Best western is right down the beach, I walked over and used their beach chairs which were all set out for their guests. I only stayed there for one night. The food was the only redeeming thing about this place. I also stayed at the Mafolie for one night, and would recommend them over this hotel, except if you like the beach. It wasn't horrible, but I was glad to go. Also, the front office doesn't open till 7, good luck trying to get a taxi. I had the front desk clerks husband drive me to the airport after calling every taxi co in vain. I even asked the front desk to make arrangements the night before, and they said, " no problems, there are always taxis". Ummm no....

Just 'fine'
At $180/night this hotel was just 'fine.' The beds were in decent shape. Ventilation was nearly non-existent and room a/c barely worked. It's location on a little beach and the chairs outside made it pleasant enough for a one night stay.

Wonderful staff, ambiance
The hotel is a bit overdue for an update but it's still just a wonderful spot. The staff and the locals who frequent the bar are the icing on the cake. The regaled us with history of the island, the area, the hotel. The owner sat down for drinks with us and chatted, the bartender was generous with the drinks. The beach is just divine. And we have it from the owner - that an update is in the works in the future. We'll return to this quaint little spot.
