Poor service

Hotel was pleasant enough and located on beautiful grounds, but the staff operate on island time and I had difficulties with their accidently canceling my reservation and then accidently adding over $900 to my room bill for various items. It was then a hassle to get these items sorted while I was supposed to be relaxing!

I would move in if they would let me

I just booked my 4th trip, and this is the only place on the Island I will stay. Break into the piggy bank and book the Doubloons rooms. Private, quiet, postcard views... The other rooms are good too, but if you really want the best, book the Doubloons rooms. Maybe four paces to get your feet in the sand, five to get them wet. At night, you look across the water to Christiansted all lit up at night - perfect. Shower and jacuzzi are designed for more than one occupant at a time, adding to the experience. Its great if you're with someone special, inappropriate for family situations. Add in a great daily breakfast included, and the best tennis courts and pro on the island, and this is the only place to stay. Minimal shopping in town, Take the seaplane to St. Thomas to go shopping, 15 minutes away to the seaplanes, 20 minute flight. Book it ahead of time, the flights do fill the day before, you may have to shop longer than you planned ;-) I first found these guys by accident. I booked a 'cottage' online at a really dirty place (my ocean view was of the bathrooms at the buffet, bugs in the bathroom and kitchenette, headlights in the window all night long - gross). At breakfast the first morning I told the owner to get me the heck out of there. He handed me the phone to the Buccaneer. They came and got me, listened to my tale of woe, and offered me a oceanfront room at the same price I was paying for the intolerable cottage at the other resort. Needless to say, they had my loyalty instantly. By my third trip, they were looking up my past stays, offering multiple options, discounts, and extras to pick from, all in the name of 'just good business'. The whole staff goes out of their way to be helpful, and if they can't, they will find someone who can.

50th Wedding Anniversary

The hotel's toilet was not working properly. It took 3 separate attempts to get it fixed. As a result, we had to move twice, taking up a good part of our vacation. The hotel promised us a refund of one night; and said that the travel arranger had to credit our account. We assume you will take care of this soon. Thank you. Otherwise, it would have been a fine hotel: nice beach, nice pool, attentive staff.

Average

The hotel although marked as a 5 star resort felt more like a 3 star resort. The grounds were beautiful but the hotel itself is old. The rooms were comfortable but the bathroom had a musty smell and there were tons of mosquitos!!! The food at the hotel was like dinner food, salty and super expensive. Overall I was expecting more from this location based on the reviews.

Excellent vacation headquarters

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodations were lovely. Free coffee in the room and free breakfast every day. The food was good. Beaches clean. Lots of other activities such as volleyball and golf. My only complaint was that the snorkeling at this site wasn't very exciting. Much better at Buck Island (a trip was arranged by the staff).

Great family vacation

This was our second time staying at this hotel. The first time the experience was great but this second time around we really enjoyed the hotels amenities. We were upgraded to one of their villas closed to the beach. It was a big surprise and nice perk. The room is spacious and beds are comfortable.

Business/Pleasure in St. Croix

I would recommend the Buccaneer to anyone who can afford to step it up a notch. View was fantastic, clear water, good snorkeling right off the hotel beach front. Staff were a friendly as they could be and seemed genuinely glad we were there. Gated entry makes it more secure. Fine dining is pricey as expected at a resort like this, but oh so good! We were there in the low season, so it wasn't so crowded, which to us was a plus. Room AC could have been upgraded to compensate for the warm temps, we just turned up the ceiling fan to compensate. Needed a few more days of relaxation to take advantage of the golf course and jogging trail on property, but maybe next time. Thumbs up!

Take the Buck Island all day snorkeling and lunch tour. Picks up and drops off right at the Buccaneer hotel dock. Crystal clear water, fun boat crew. (Don't forget the "Rum Punch".
