Family-friendly hotel with outdoor activities on rolling woodland acres
The Historic Powhatan Plantation dates back to 1735 when a leading architect occupied the Manor House of this former plantation. Today, the hotel recognizes that colonial spirit with classic American accommodations and a blissful setting on 250-plus wooded acres. Active travelers make full use of the multiple recreational amenities on site, including pools, basketball and tennis courts.

Highlights
  • Restored 1735 Manor House on site
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and a 18-hole mini golf course
  • Spacious accommodations with multiple bedrooms, balcony and loft
  • Full kitchens and washers and dryers in most rooms

Rooms
A variety of layouts accommodate even the largest of groups, with some options boasting as many as four bedrooms. Some rooms showcase traditional American style and come furnished with fireplace and full kitchen that allows guests to save on dining expenses. Washers and dryers complete the residential feel.

Recreation

The Historic Powhatan Plantation is set on 256 rolling wooded acres. The resort brims with colonial charm, starting with the Powhatan Plantation's Manor House that was once the home of the area's leading architect Richard Taliaferro. Guests can spend considerable time outside at the tennis, racquetball and basketball courts and the 18-hole mini golf course. Visitors can also enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools.

VERY UNPLEASANT

Very Nice hotel, layout was great. Customer Service was terrible! My unit had no running water at the time of check in. Problem was not fixable at the time of my check in either, so I had to move my family to another unit. Front Desk had no desire to please, so my replacement unit was not equivalent to what I paid for initially. Managers were never available for comment and I have not been compensated for my troubles. Not to bad for the money, but make sure you check your room out thoroughly before excepting it.

The Historic Powhatan Resort

Nice play to stay, ok for the $$ I paid. A couple of things to be aware of, If you're going before May 1st and you want to use the indoor pool you will be dissappointed, the pool is ridiscously small for a resort that has 230 Condos!!!! Hello!!! When I got there we were told the pool is filled to capacity you will have to wait until someone comes out, its bad enough I have to stand in line at busch gadens but now I'm standing in line so I can go in the pool and be counted among the sardines......no good will not go to this resort again unless it's after MAY 1st and see if the outdoor pools are open. Also, they want to charge us "renters" for internet access...please Macdonadls has free Internet access. I signed up for the "timeshare" pitch by Diamonds Resorts International who bought this resort 3 years ago, got my $50 Visa gift card and 2 night/3 day free stay at one of their resorts and hit the road..... All the decks of 2nd floor units are faded, peeling and in need of repair or complete replacing....

Satisfactory

Spent most of our time visiting attractions but with only 1 shower it made is difficult to take showers since no one was interested in taking a bath in the 2nd bathroom. There was alot of remodeling going on in the units around us. Clean towels were not delivered one day but for some reason left out in the yard.

"Decided what's Important"

We wanted to upgrade from the average hotel room so we picked the Powhatan. We have a tween so the pool and mini gulf on the property was a great feature. The room wasn't spectacular but durable. Out of date TV's, a mini fridge, no couch just 2 chairs. The loft upstairs was very hot. But we were just there to sleep so it was worth the money. However, the 2 hours you have to commit to for the timeshare speech can be tough. Either stand your ground and say NO after the sales pitch or haggle them down to your price. WE DID!

All entertainment is within a 15 minute drive. This was a great location for the theme parks or historic features. Dining and shopping all located near by.

Historic Powhatan stuck in the past.

My family and I came down to visit the parks and wanted to stay at a place with a little more comfort. The beds were VERY good and looked like they had been recently purchased. We had booked a bedroom with a loft and it was comfortable. The bathrooms were very small (cruise size small) and only one of them had a shower. The master bath had a large Jacuzzi tub but NO jets and no shower; USELESS. The small appliances were also new but the large appliances need to be replaced. The dishwasher rattled and had to be slammed shut to work, the dryer only had one setting that worked, the fridge froze everything inside and the air conditioning unit was so loud that we had to raise the volume on the TVs to drown out the hum. By the end of the three day we got tired of calling the front desk for work orders to be done so we didn't even tell them that the unit was starting to leak. What a mess! The grounds were well maintained and the pool area was nice. There are three outdoor pools (2 family and 1 adult) in one area but with so many rooms I really think it would be time to build another pool area. We didn't see the indoor pool. The entertainment around the pool area was lacking so if your going to bring your kids make sure they bring their own toys, books, games etc. I met a few owners around the poolside and they were not happy about their stay either. I guess Diamond Resort is going to get a "few" unhappy letters this coming week. Beware: Its a pretty wrapped gift with smelly fish inside.

Great location

Just spent a weekend here and the location was great. The room was as described and clean. We had no hot water when we arrived but within 15 min of our phonecall to the front office, the maintenance guys had taken care of it. The only thing we disliked was the sales pitch at the check in. Felt a bit pushy.

Great getaway for me and the wife!

Room was clean and organized. The only complaint is they need to update their TV's to flat screens and you shouldn't have to pay for wireless internet.

Better off staying at a hotel

We searched for a hotel in the area and this hotel came up in the search. We thought we would give this a chance because we like to support the smaller businesses. Well we were in for a surprise! This was not a hotel, rather a timeshare, Diamond Resorts Intl. to be more specific. When we checked in, they moved us to the VIP section in the back (we were told) and this was the "high pressure" sale trying to get us to buy a timeshare. All we wanted to do was get to our room. This was NOT a good first impression. The room was okay, nothing extraordinary. In fact, it was kind of annoying. The location of the TV's were just plain dumb. The TV in the living room, was in between the dining room and coaches. So, we could never watch the TV head on. And the other TV was in the kids bedroom, not the master. The showers were sub-par, and the walls were paper thin. But, the kitchen was clean and well stocked with supplies. If you are looking for WIFI, it will cost you. This was annoying, as all the other places we stay at, it is free.
