Steeped in history and celebrity, the St Anthony offers impressive surroundings and modern touches to ensure the comfort of its guests. The hotel retains many of its period features, including high ceilings and gold leaf décor. St Anthony Rooms
Creamy tones on the walls and furniture aim to soothe guests, while comfortable mattresses and 100 percent pure cotton bed linen promote a restful night's sleep. Stylish touches, including patterned drapes, tasteful artwork in gilt frames and rich wooden furniture bring elegance and warmth. Four-poster beds in nearly all rooms add to the feeling of sophistication. The hotel was built in 1909 and many rooms retain period features such as original tiling in the bathrooms. Some rooms have views of downtown San Antonio or the nearby park. Wireless Internet and televisions with premier channels (charges may apply) alongside complimentary coffee and coffeemaker make relaxing easy, while a work desk provides space for guests who have to work during their stay. The St Anthony is a great option for families or larger groups, courtesy of its rooms with two queen beds and two full-size bathrooms. Large living areas in the suites, which range from 300 to 500 sq ft, provide space to really spread out; some also offer sofa beds to accommodate extra guests. Full size bathrooms in all rooms have branded bath products to aid relaxation at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Two specialty suites are available for special stays, one being the room used by John Wayne during filming of 'The Alamo'. In-room spa treatments may be arranged and a room service menu is available (charges apply).

overnight stay
Nice older hotel located in close proximity to the riverwalk, Alamo and mall. Hotel has character and staff was professional and pleasant. Room was reasonably priced and had a nice view of adjacent park. Comfortable bed.

an older gem, close to riverwalk
this was a great location and perfect walking distance to the riverwalk, without the cost of being right on the river. however, when we got there, we had rented two identical rooms with two queen size beds in each. they told us the first room would be what we reserved, but the second room would only have one bed in it. we had five people between the two rooms and expected the comfort of what we reserved. the hotel would only give us what we reserved if we paid an extra $20.00. Not enough towels in the room for the # of people in the room.

From the front of the hotel, make a right. It is about a block and a half to the riverwalk. If you have problems with steps, there is an elevator right there.

Nice stay
The hotel is very old fashioned but nice. The bathroom is very very small and there was no fridge or cup for the ice. Great location.

St. Anthony
It was ok but I expected more since it was a classic hotel. No free internet, no free parkling no ventilation in the bathroom.

Awesome!
If you want a nice and cozy room in a beautiful area, tha St. Anthony is the one. The room was clean, bed was super confortable. No Complaints. The only set-back is the VIP Parking. I'd suggest self parking, because you will wait over 45 minutes to get your car in the mornings right before checkout.

Really enhanced the experience of our trip!
First, the lobby of this historic hotel has a fabulous look and feel with the crystal chandaliers and restored decor. Second, the location is perfect, right in the heart of the Riverwalk and the Alamo both. Easy to walk everywhere. Finally, the staff was AMAZING! When they learned of the special ocassion we were celebrating, they upgraded us and sent wine, chocolate covered strawberries and a card signed by the staff up to the room! The room and experience of the St. Anthony was a reall bonus for us on this trip. We highly recommend it! The room was clean but the carpet could have been cleaned. The beds were SUPER comfortable!

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
Take the double decker bus to the Mercado for a few hours of shopping and a margarita! The bus allows you to hop on and off every 30 minutes. It's a great way to see San Antonio.

Convenient downtown location, great staff.
Staff was very pleasant and professional, especially Richard who recommended several excellent local places to eat. Hotel is 2 blocks from restaurant area of River Walk, and a few blocks from the Alamo and other downtown attractions. Hotel itself is comfortable, historic and elegant in an old style fashion, but could use some serious freshening. Price of room was fine, but keep in mind there is an extra daily charge to park your car overnight.

River Walk for restaurants and pleasant park areas. Take the trolley package with the off/on, River Walk boat ride, and iMax features. They all originate in the area around the Alamo (which is free to visit). Allow a few hours early in the day as some things close in the early evening.

Too many extra fees.
The hotel looks like a set from Mad Men and is very quiet. However, they nickel and dime you for everything. Parking is $25 a night + $10 per day. So parking a car for 2 days is about the same as staying in the hotel a day. Continental breakfast is $13. Internet $10 a day. Roll out bed is $15. Need I go on?

The people were nice and mostly helpful. BUT, the first day we arrived after a full day of touring we wanted to take showers. We had no bath towels. I called and was told we would get some right away. Never happened. We got them after the next days cleaning. The bed had a bulge that made you almost roll out of bed. Bathroom never was as clean as we expect (old tub and toilet). Carpet was not up to any standard.
