St Anthony Rooms

Creamy tones on the walls and furniture aim to soothe guests, while comfortable mattresses and 100 percent pure cotton bed linen promote a restful night's sleep. Stylish touches, including patterned drapes, tasteful artwork in gilt frames and rich wooden furniture bring elegance and warmth. Four-poster beds in nearly all rooms add to the feeling of sophistication. The hotel was built in 1909 and many rooms retain period features such as original tiling in the bathrooms. Some rooms have views of downtown San Antonio or the nearby park. Wireless Internet and televisions with premier channels (charges may apply) alongside complimentary coffee and coffeemaker make relaxing easy, while a work desk provides space for guests who have to work during their stay. The St Anthony is a great option for families or larger groups, courtesy of its rooms with two queen beds and two full-size bathrooms. Large living areas in the suites, which range from 300 to 500 sq ft, provide space to really spread out; some also offer sofa beds to accommodate extra guests. Full size bathrooms in all rooms have branded bath products to aid relaxation at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Two specialty suites are available for special stays, one being the room used by John Wayne during filming of 'The Alamo'. In-room spa treatments may be arranged and a room service menu is available (charges apply).

Beautiful old hotel

When we first got there we were greeted with beautiful chandaliers and antique furniture. The hotel is being remodled but was still amazing, I cant wait to see when its done. We got to our room and I went to get ice. The machine was broken but as I was walking back to my room a janitor offered to go to another floor and get me some. We encountered this type of great service our entire stay. The hotel is located within walking distance of everthing and we will be back.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Rosarios for mexican, Boudros for great food and people watching. The esquire bar was very uppity and full of themselves, we waited 10 min to be greeted and eventually walked out. Went to an irish bar a few doors down and had great service. That is where we got the great suggestion on Boudros. Go to Pearl Brewery and eat at NOA!! A restaurant run by the Culinary Institute of the Arts. Run by the students. Portions are small but food is 5star quality at cheap prices.

Beautiful hotel

Enjoyed our stay at the St Anthony very much. Everyone was so helpful and so polite even in everyday contact. I would stay there again. They are in the process of remodeling and did all they could not to disturb the residents. We had an issue with the shuttle not coming to take us to the airport and Jose, employee, got us a taxi immediately and we did not miss our flight.

Two restaurants were recommended to us and I would like to pass these along. Blanco Café on N St Mary. One block west and 1/2 block north. And Acenar at 146 E Houston.

Amazing Hotel

The room was amazing, hotel was fantastic, and location was perfect. Only problem was A/C. The room was constantly getting hot through out the night but would cool after a while.

Gorgeous lobby, drab rooms

The lobby is breathtaking, but the room leaves a lot to be desired.'the room was clean, but nothing special that you would expect from staying at a historic property. Also, frustrating to pay an extra $27 to park!

Great location!

Beautiful historic hotel, undergoing renovations so the hallway to our room was a bit rough, but the room itself and the other public spaces were all in better shape. Great period charm, which we liked a lot, making it easy to overlook so of the hotel's rough edges. My only real complaint was that the beds, though very comfortable, we're very squeaky and woke us up every time we rolled over in the night. If they could fix that problem then I would give them a higher rating. Our room was quite spacious, but the closets also smelled moldy. And there wasn't a luggage rack in the room, so most of our luggage had to stay on the floor. Overall though, a lovely historic hotel, and we would stay there again (though would try out the beds before committing to a room).

Reinvigorated

This is a historic hotel, which often translates into "old" or "tired". In times past I've stayed here and felt it deserved that description, but not this time. A new group has taken it over, the service is now excellent, there's a good new fitness center, and there's generally more energy around the place. While not right on the River Walk--which from a noise standpoint is a plus--it's within easy walking distance. And as one would expect from its vintage, the rooms are large and comfortable.

Excellent Hotel

The hotel was built in 1909 and has a lot of history. The lobby is filled with sculpture and paintings. The River Walk is close by. The large bed was a little to high for this short person and I had trouble climbing in. Otherwise, an awesome experience.

Elegent ladies get away

The hotel is beautiful rooms included, as small as rooms were made in 1909 but character rich. Our group was upgraded to two luxurious rooms without request. They were spotless. The beds are perfection. We enjoyed the antique bathrooms despite the size. You do know you're experiencing a moment in time but it was the reason we chose St. Anthony. I actually saw a living TV celebrity as he came out of the elevator...face to face. How fun! A lovely park is across the street. Close to River Walk and Alamo too. Nice area for walking.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Taxi service is very reliable from transportation destinations but taxis back to the destination or entertainment spots are not so reliable. You may have to call more than once to get a taxi back to your travel destination so start calling early. I didn't see a single taxi stop when a person waved for them, including myself so don't expect to wave one. Again call, maybe several times.

Historic and Picturesque only goes so far...

While the hotel was in a great location for San Antonio's sights, it was overpriced. We had a queen room which was so small there was only about 1 ft around the bed and the bathroom was hard to turn around in. The whole room looked like the 1930s, but with the 1930 amenities and size. The bed squeaked on every little turn by either of us. $200 a night is too much for the room and $20 a day for parking was too much as well. Next time we will stay outside the city center (in a better and cheaper hotel) and drive in to park for only $10 a day.
