Good local hotel

I was attending a conference held at the Marriott Rivercenter, maybe half a mile away. I saved almost $100 a night by staying at the Riverwalk Plaza instead. The hotel was comfortable, if a little cramped. The bed was comfortable. The TV was huge. The Internet was free and worked well. In San Antonio the really interesting part of the Riverwalk is a mile-long loop off the main path of the river. The Riverwalk Plaza is at one end of the loop, where it T's into the main river. It was a little inconvenient for me, but not too bad. My only real complaint is that the previous guest had smoked in my room (despite it being a "no-smoking" room). The hotel did its best to air it out before I arrived, but the smell lingered for a couple days, and there were no other rooms available. Not really their fault.

Iron Cactus restaurant. On the Riverwalk, near the NW end of the main loop. Tex-mex cuisine, but a big notch above the usual in ambiance. Very classy. Good service. Excellent food. Very reasonable prices. By far the best of the four or five Mexican restaurants I tried during my stay.

Good Location

The location was worth the money. Don't expect too much or you'll be disappointed. It's better than a Super 8 and definetly not a Marriott. If all you do is sleep there this should be your choice. You won't break your pocket book for a bed!

Recycle Recycle Recycle

Check-in took ages, but otherwise good stay from staff perspective. Reclycling at breakfast by dishwashing rather than the plastic disposable nightmare we encountered was upsetting - needlessly plastic for basic breakfast items.

Good Value

My family stayed in two rooms. Overall, the rooms were adequate but the bath tubs needed to be replaced since it is slippery and the fixtures are old and rusty. Staff was nothing special. The common areas were old and needed to be updated. To highly advertised for what it really is.

OK

Parking on weekend was over crowded and I expext the summer would be the same. Not nearly enough. Pool area nice except deck whick is in very rough shape. Free breakfast ends at 9:30 which is early if you like to sleep in on vacation which we do.

Just mediocre

The hotel was nice for the most part. Pros: nice rooms, updated and cute decor throughout hotel, nice staff, mini fridges, right by riverwalk, etc. Cons: walls are paper thin, I kept thinking there were people in my room. No hot tub, just a pool. And we ate downstairs at Signature Tapas for breakfast- worst food on the whole trip.

Nothing special

This hotel looked nicer on the website, and was not as nice as it appeared. It was not terrible, but you can probably find a much nicer hotel for not much more cost.

Should've picked something else

There wasn't much parking space. The "river view" was not worth the extra fee. It was a good walk from the hotel to the riverwalk, not as close as they lead you to believe. I think I would choose a different hotel next time. The bed however was really comfortable, and we did have a good nights sleep.

So-So place

Hotel was ok - charged us $12.00 a day to park in their garage which I think is bull also promised a cont. breakfast which we never got. People were friendly & service was good. Overall was not bad but would probably stay somewhere else next time.
