Overnight stay in SA
The hotel staff was nice enough however the hotel itself was a total disappointment. It is in need of much renovation. Jr. Suite was paid $200 for after taxes felt like a cave. Walls were dirty, furniture was outdated and bed was lumpy. And to add to it, the pull out sofa bed had a what I assume was a fresh blood stain on the mattress cover. It had not been removed to even try to wash that out! Gross! We have always had pleasant, satisfying stay with Holiday Inn Express however, this one fell way, way short, needless to say we will not stay at this location ever again.

Economical Get Away
The staff were very pleasant and offered a warm welcome. The free shuttle service to sites in San Antonio was so helpful and saved a lot of money on parking in the downtown areas. The breakfast bar was good and had hot food too. The neighborhood a few blocks away isn't that safe, but the lot here was locked after 10:30 p.m. and that helped us feel more secure. This was a great get away for the price compared to hotels just a few blocks away.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The shuttle will drop you off at the RiverCenter or the Turn Around, both offering great restaurants on the RiverWalk. You will walk one block once dropped off. I liked Boudreau's for Mexican and Gulf Coast cuisine. The River Center Mall is a mile away. Very handy.

Wonderful staff but a lot of street noise
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express while in SA working at the Convention Center. Pros of the hotel: - Great, friendly staff. - Above average continental style breakfast with pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs, ham and a variety of pastries and cinnamon buns. - We stayed in a larger suite - so it was roomy. - Great shower heads. - Security guard in the parking lot at night. - Local area shuttle took us to dinner on the Riverwalk. Cons of the hotel: - Our room was on the street side and on street level and the traffic noise woke us up repeatedly. - - The thermostat made a loud snapping sound each time it kicked on (woke us both up) and the temperature fluctuated from uncomfortably hot to freezing cold. Summary: I'd stay there again IF I knew I'd be on the parking lot side on a higher floor. The warm friendly nature of the staff, which they did have control over, outweighed the traffic noise, which they did not have control over.

Short walk from hotel
There's a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse only a block or two away. But it's the only restaurant within walking distance. The free shuttle can take you to the Riverwalk so you don't have to hassle with downtown SA parking.

Better than expected!
This hotel seemed out of the way at first... Got into the hotel and was immediately pleased. Lobby and Breakfast area were a decent size. The hotel room (#410) was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The room included a small fridge and microwave for FREE. The hotel is right next to the Alamo Dome and the window view was of the Dome and the Tower. The bilingual staff was cordial and knowledgeable, they mainly "kept their distance" unless approached for help. The FREE hot and cold breakfast was from 630-930 and super delicious. Though the parking lot was an average size it was accomodating and for FREE. The hotel offers a FREE shuttle to and from the Riverwalk every half hour. Downers: only one elevator but did have stairs for the excercise type. Not an issue for me during my stay but the Pizza Delivery guy did say he had to wait for the elevator a while and that's why he was late delivering the pizza... a family memeber also mentioned had to wait on the elevator to come back down b/c it was full the first time going up. Another downer is that the shuttle driver is not the infamous "Thomas" that so many reviews have posted. The driver was cordial but it was a quiet drive to the riverwalk; about 5 mins. Small talk and sight seeing info would have made the drive a little more comfortable and not so awkward. He was informative though when pressed for info. Last downer: the location of the hotel is on the outskirts and all on its own, wouldn't recommend walking to the riverwalk after dark unless walking with a group due to the hotel location and the fact that it's San Antonio period. All in all I was very pleasently pleased with this hotel. I was a little concerned at first b/c of the mixed reviews from different websites. I really appreciated the FREE stuff that all the other decent hotels charge for. The price/night of the Room was average $$ compared to the rest of the 3-5 Star Hotels. We brought in 2013 with a great view of the Fireworks right from the Room!!!

Time-saving tip:

The free hotel shuttle runs every half hour; however, it is only a brisk 10 min walk to the riverwalk. Would recommend getting the excercise instead of sitting and waiting for the shuttle. It's not as far as it sounds.

Fantastic!
The staff was helpful, polite, and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. The location just couldn't have been better. We went to Seaworld, the riverwalk, the zoo, and some local museums, and all were very convenient. Free parking, free internet, and free breakfast! Even a free shuttle to the riverwalk. I would happily refer this hotel to others, and would not even look at other hotels for my next trip to San Antonio.

Good Hotel
Room was clean, most of the staff was very friendly, the elevator went out on the second day so we took the stairs they did have it fixed that night. The location of the hotel is close to the riverwalk about two blocks away. I don't suggest walking let them take you in the shuttle to the riverwalk. The hotel itself is nice the area it is in is not the best location. They are in some what the ghetto. But we really enjoyed our stay there we had them shuttle us to the riverwalk and then we drove our own car everywhere else. The Zoo was horrible that was the only bad part of our trip. The hotel is about a 20 minute drive from Sea World and that is not bad. We would stay here again. There is a Spaghetti Warehouse right around the corner which was very good.

Wished I would have booked elsewhere.
Other than being close to the Alamodome, (where my granddaughter was performing) and being fairly close to the Riverwalk, I was somewhat disappointed in this Holiday Inn. I was excited to see that I had a jacuzzi tub upon check-in, but when I saw all the mold in the caulking around the tub, I felt I had made the wrong hotel choice. When I stood in front of the bathroom sink, my leg literally touched the toilet. The furniture in the rooms were quite out-dated, and some walls were dirty. The hotel definitely could use remodeling. Breakfast was pretty good, and beds were comfortable though.
