overnight riverwalk hotel
The hotel room was very nice. Meals could have been better. Saturday evening there were no meals being served in the main dining room. We had to order some sandwiches from the snack bar, which was very average at best. Do not understand why the Mango dining room was not open at 6:00 p.m., when it was supposed to be. The room was very nice. however the bathroom was quite small and had very little counter space. It did not have any exhaust fan or other ventilation system, which also made it feel sort of "claustrophobic".

Decent location, great value
The checkin process was smooth and easy; friendly staff. The room was spacious, clean, and easy to find. The location was decent: right on the river walk, but about half a mile north of all the shops and restaurants. It was a nice, mild day when I went, so I didn't mind walking; but beware in the summer! Also, overnight parking is $18, which seems pretty high for San Antonio.

Great Place to Stay
We stayed here for the Alamo Bowl. Rooms were clean, breakfast was good, location was great and price was right. Be careful about parking across the street...the parking company is running a scam!

Was not very happy with the extra fees.
There was mold and mildew in areas of the restroom. No refridgerator in the room. Air conditioner was calibrated so it would not get above a certain temperature. The breakfast for $8.95 was not even close to being worth the money. We will not be staying there again.

Good price for the location, unremarkable hotel.
El Tropicano is conveniently located along the river and well-priced, but those are its main draws. The rooms are adequate but unspectacular. Ours had a very leaky bathtub faucet, and the walls and windows are thin (we had some issues with noise from the patio area below and could clearly hear a movie being watched in the next room.) Coffee bar is overpriced and mediocre.

In Hotel
If you don't plan to be in and out of the parking lot regularly, park in one of the surrounding lots rather than paying $18 to park in the hotel's lot.

Weekend Get Away
All the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and beds were very comfy. Just went to have a stress free time away from home. It fit the bill nicely. Our experience at the El Tropicano was great and would reccomend staying there and we will again.

Not bad overall
The hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was extremely polite and the servie was wonderful. Easy access to the River Walk but it is a long walk to River Center Mall. Be prepared to pay $18 a day for parking. The room we stayed in was a little small but not bad overall.

Long walk from hotel
If you plan on shopping at River Center Mall, take the river taxie. It is a far walk. The taxie is $5 ea for a one way ticket or you can buy a day pass for $10 ea. There are many pick up/drop off locations. You get a great scenic boat ride of the River Walk too. Well worth the money!

Awesome hotel!
my bf and i stayed here for overnight getaway on the riverwalk and were not disappointed. The staff were very nice, the tiki bar was open and had great drinks, the hotel is right on the riverwalk and only a short walk from the main action. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and there was and espresso bar for my morning caffeine fix. Cool place!

Very disappointed
First of all, when we checked in to the hotel, we found out that the amenities advertised on the website were not quite accurate. The San Antonio Riverwalk area is a year round tourist attraction. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it had an on-premises restaurant, a poolside bar and a hotel bar. We were told that the restaurant is only open for a breakfast buffet and is only open for breakfast, lunch and dinner during the summer. Also, we were told the same story about the poolside bar - only open during the summer. The hotel bar does not open until 5:00 p.m. These were important factors in choosing the El Tropicana because they are not within walking distance of any of the Riverwalk restaurants. I would not stay there again.
