Relatively convenient to downtown
The Red Roof Inn Austin North is a good no frills hotel. The rooms were clean. The Mexican restaurant attached next to the hotel is okay, but nothing special. The hotel is pretty close to downtown.

Beware
The location is in the shady part of town. I know I witnessed some deals going down, but didn't want to get caught staring. The pictures of the Inn must be from another location. There was NO microwave in the room, but for an ADDITIONAL cost you could add a coffee pot. For the price the room, bed and space were fine.

It was terrible. There were roaches, we had to change rooms 3 times BC the water wasn't working in the sink. I wouldn't go back there

I saw pets are allowed.. and there was a hint of smoke smell.. but not strong enough to be a former smoking room (maybe the room next door). But it's cheap and it's on i-35 and it's in Austin, around 10mins from downtown

Eh...
We had stayed the night at a Fairfield but had an overwhelming day. We needed a place to nap before driving 6 hrs on the rd. when we drove up we had trouble getting in bc the entrance was obscure and second entrance was locked. Walking in to the room it stunk of cigarettes even tho it was non smoking. Bed was what u'd expect for 40/night. We got our nap though and left within the hour

Business mixed with pleasure.
The room was clean, but nothing special. Needed to have a microwave because the location made it rather awkward to get anything to eat. If you are not familiar with the area, it causes a problem if you miss your turn into the parking lot; you have to circle around about a mile or two to get back to the room.

HMMADNESS
Average stay
For Halloween weekend it was packed but only one pregnant lady running counter. She was trying and was friendly to me but had her hands beyond full. The room was nice and comfy, the fact that all the people were loud and rude around us and the hotel did nothing was sad but her what can you do.

black lady hair on my towel
When we checked in it took a half hour to get our key, we were on the fourth floor with no elevator. No iron, no hairdryer, no coffee, no anything. When i got out of the shower i used a "clean" towel that had about 6 long hairs that looked african american and they got all over me. Room service never brought more towels. Only good thing was the close stay to the convention center
