Great location, overall good experience

The staff were very friendly and more than accommodating. The room was nothing exceptional, but it was clean and comfortable. Overall, the best thing about the hotel is the location. This La Quinta is roughly a 5-10 minute walk from Sixth Street and all the fun downtown hot spots! It's listed at the best price if you are looking for a close stay to this area. I would recommend it for these reasons.

Surprised!

Surprised by the parking fee at the hotel. Not included when I paid and booked through my online travel site. More of an irritant than anything. Based on condition of the hotel, location in relation to downtown hotspots and having to pay for parking I think $120 per night would be top of the mark. Paid $180 per night including parking. Could have stayed at a nicer hotel closer to downtown nightlife and restaurants at that rate. Now I know.

Take your walking shoes and do not walk alone it late at night. Bus station around the corner where transients gather.

Good Value

For the location to the capital, it was decently priced. The ceiling in the shower was falling down, but the AC worked and the beds were clean. Parking is valet only and an additional fee. There is a small pool and free breakfast!

Needs a real facelift - but easy walk to DKR Stadium

I first stayed here over 30 years ago, so I'm well aware this is not a brand-new hotel. However, it really needs a real renovation, not just patching of holes in the ceilings and another coat of paint over the crumbling bathroom doors. At least the place is kept pretty clean, and the staff are VERY friendly and helpful. The other guests, especially the ones down the hall who left their howling hound while they went out and partied, not so much. The incessant barking caused our entire floor to be relocated, which at least the staff didn't argue about (and apologized for not being able to locate the awol guests). For us, that meant to a floor w/ more dogs who barked their welcome as we walked to our new room. We are supposed to return in Nov but I'm about to cancel that reservation if I can. Location & staff gets the extra star, otherwise this would be a 1-star review.

Good location

The hotel had a great location blocks to 6th street. Lacking greatly in amenities. Clean rooms. Had trouble with crickets in the vents keeping us up at night and staff had maintenance fix it same day. Our room was on the ground floor which was noisy with the main road next to the hotel. Price was a bit much for the hotel but we did go on the weekend of gay pride. Overall good experience.

Run Down

Remarkably run down facility, at any price. The unadvertised, mandatory valet charge is a pathetic way for an adult to make money. Our room, however, was surprisingly fresh and clean. The outside feels like a slum. The breakfast area is almost uninhabitable. The gym is a joke. Great location, but there's got to be a better value. I don't recall wanting to leave a hotel quite as badly as I wanted to leave this one. Management has put off crucial refurbishments far too long, which means management is incompetent. This franchisee is severely deteriorating the value of the franchise and therefore must be replaced with a competent manager.

Terrible Terrible Night

When I arrived at the hotel the system was down from "a storm there was a few days ago". How that makes sense I do not know. Then a lady behind the counter (a woman working around 8pm on July 19th) was extremely rude to me and the other guests surrounded when we expressed our frustration. I had things to do that night. Then they had the system back up for a few minutes so she took my ID and began checking me in and it shut down again.... I had a dinner appointment I had to get to for work. I was forced to use the lobby bathroom to change and get ready for dinner. I told them we would be back to check in after dinner and they said everything should be better by then. We leave our car in the parking garage with our bags, go have dinner (via cab). When we arrive back 2 hours later....i go up to the counter and she said the hotel was overbooked...i protested that I had a reservation and i was there earlier so there should be a room for me. And they looked at the computer and she looked at me and said "i'm sorry you're going to have to walk" She said it so rude i wasn't sure if she was serious. I cannot believe, first, that they overbooked 7 reservations...and second how rude she had the audacity to be to me when THE HOTEL is the one who made the mistake. I had no where to sleep and things to do that night. I've never dealt with such an unprofessional person in my life. This experience was so frustrating and she was so rude I will honestly go out of my way every single time to avoid staying at another la quinta again. I was late to my event that night because of this situation and aggravation. It was an embarrasing situation on the other end because I had clients waiting for me (their host) and I'm struggling with a severely under-par hotel and staff member.
