Lack of handicapped access not dislosed at booking

Reservation was made in January for Commencement weekend at UT Austin. Requested handicapped accessible room with 2 double beds. On check-in I was told that they never have first floor rooms with 2 double beds. (ie, it was not a matter of there being rooms but that the rooms were already occupied.) I would expect that the hotel should have advised me at booking that they could not accommodate my reservation. The stairs to the second floor were too narrow for 2 people to pass each other and the railing was loose (and very grimy) which was a significant concern to me because of mobility issues. The pool was tiny, the water was cloudy/murky, on the middle day of a 3 day weekend, they drained it (into the street which was a few feet away). The sheets and blankets were not big enough for the beds. The bed was made so that the blanket came up only to my waist. The bottom sheets could not be tucked in. Three pillows were on the bed and one had no pillow case. All of the parking was striped for small cars. I had rented a Taurus and there was only one space that was wide enough to open the passenger and driver side doors at the same time. In addition, much of the parking was under the second floor rooms and there were numerous posts supporting the second floor which made it extremely difficult to get in and out of the far-to-small spots. Two homeless men were in the lobby eating the continental breakfast. Walking in my stocking feet on the rug left my socks grey/black. One star rating is one star too many.

Don't expect to feel safe or cozy...

This hotel is quite basic, to that extent it seemed a bit overpriced compared to other Days Inns I've stayed at. My biggest concern though was that the second evening I was there I arrived to find my hotel door ajar after I had put the do not disturb sign and made sure the door was securely closed before I left. Luckily, nothing was missing but it was quite jarring as far as being a young women traveling on my own. The night manager couldn't look over the security camera footage and I never even got an explanation or apology from the rest of the staff as to what had occurred. In addition, this hotel is down the street from St. David's medical center and ambulances pass quite frequently so if you are a light sleeper this is not the place for you.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Sao Paulo's on San Jacinto had pretty good fare and wasn't to expensive. Their chocolate dreamtini was tasty. I recommend using smartphone apps to find places and things to do, although I had trouble using the hotel wi-ii on my phone which made it difficult to find directions.

Not Worth the Price

I spent 4 nights at this hotel. I had a cold shower on three of the mornings. If you want hot water, get up early. The location isn't great, however, there is a funky little diner next door. It is open 24 hours, so it's great regardless of time of day. Otherwise, you'd need a car as there isn't anything else near by. You are literally right next to I-35 and a hospital, so this is not a quiet location.

Good location/great price

The rooms are small but there is a vintage styled cafe on site which we enjoyed several times. The room with a king size bed is very comfortable but the one with 2 double beds is cramped. It was a great location, close to downtown, right off I-35 North. Staff was very nice. Pool was small. The noise from the air conditioner in the room covered the noise from the interstate. Price made it worth it.
