Candlewood Suites AUSTIN-SOUTH

I was extremely disappointed in my recent stay at the candle wood suites and will not be staying at that chain in the future. I booked my hotel on online prior to taking part in the Austin to Shiner century (100 mile long bike ride). For reference, my friend booked the room across from ours directly with the hotel and paid the same rate. During the booking process, I was not given the option of selecting my preferred room type. Soon after booking, I called and spoke to someone at candle woods corporate (or perhaps I H C as they're part of that chain) and requested a two-bed and non-smoking room. Judging by the person's accent, I suspect it was an out-sourced/off-shore call center but I am just speculating. When I arrived to the hotel, I was displeased to find that I was placed in a room with a single full-sized bed. I went to the front desk to ask to be changed and was told that my room was booked as a "run of the house" which basically means that they can put us wherever they please. I informed them that I called with my requests but was told that "corporate must have over-promised" and they couldn't accommodate my request. They told me that they would send a "roll-away" bed. After a great while, someone arrived with the "roll-away" which was, in fact, a twin sized air mattress. She neglected to bring bedding. When we called about the bedding we were told that we would have to come to the front desk to get the bedding ourselves. My companion went to obtain the bedding and was treated very rudely and told that it was our fault that we were dissatisfied with our room because we booked on a "discount" website (again, my "discounted" rate was exactly the same as my other friend across the hall). It was the model of atrocious customer service and the opposite of hospitality. I will never stay in another candle wood suite again. If they would discriminate against a guest and treat them that poorly for using an online booking process they don't deserve anyone's business.

Helpful staff and very clean facility close to the airport and downtown Austin. Great room for the price.

The kitchen in every room is a huge advantage in saving time and money for meals. Easy access to highways makes the location a very big plus.

This hotel was perfect for our needs on this trip. Because we were traveling to Ironman 70.3 Austin we needed to be as comfortable and self-sufficient as possible. Our room was the perfect size with a small kitchen so we could prepare some of our own meals. All was clean and modernly decorated. It felt very much like we were staying in a friend's apartment. We had access to on-site laundry and a decent gym. The staff was very courteous and friendly. If we return for this event again we will absolutely stay here again.

Good stay, nice rooms. No Pool, bit hard to get to as tucked away. Had several rooms & they botched one of these. Great stay otherwise.

The daytime manager remembered us from our last stay and as always he was most accommodating.

I did not want to pay downtown prices but still wanted a clean, comfortable room. Still close enough to things if you have a rental car but not close enough that it became super expensive. More geared towards the extended stay patrons. Rooms are being remodeled and look nice. I got what I paid for.

As a single grandfather, Candlewood was ideal for my visit with daughter's family. Easy access located on I-35 and just minutes from her house. The room had kitchen facilities, TV (limited to basic channels), and free internet. The hotel was being remodeled and the water was shut off from 10 AM to 4 PM daily, but this did not affect me as I was out of the room from 8 AM to 10 PM.

Even though this property may be listed as South Austin, it is an EASY 10 minute drive to central downtown. Less than 10 minutes down the road is a nice shopping center with good grocery store, restaurants and misc other services. Easy access to and from I-35 and Hwy 71...all directions. In short a great value and great place to stay. I WILL STAY HERE AGAIN.
