Drove from Dallas for a 3 day weekend. Residence Inn was a great experience from the start: friendly staff, free street parking all weekend, queen loft room perfect for two adults and a child, fabulous breakfast!! we loved the character of the hotel and art deco touches.

The staff at the desk and the valet department were outstanding. The room was clean and comfortable. The amenities were less than most hotels or motels. I had to call the desk to get coffee for the second day's stay. This is not what we are used to. Even the less expensive hotels have better amenities than you do.

Charming hotel, great views, historic.
Took a buggy ride through downtown Memphis, enjoyed the history given by our driver CZ. Recommend him. Watched fireworks from the roof top from the Baseball game. Walked the streets.

"Elvis would not stay here"
We were visiting Memphis for a family wedding. The church and reception were held downtown and all out-of-town family stayed at the Residence Inn. The parking situation was terrible;there were three parking spaces for the hotel and so everyone had to valet or park on the street. The A/C was turned off in the halls and elevator so it was like being in an oven when not in your room. The staffing was so limited that one felt bad for the few staffers there; they were overwhelmed. The cook for the free breakfast had to cook and bus tables; the front desk person waited on customers and answered the busy phone; the valet parkers could hardly keep up so there were long waits; there was one bellman so it was best to carry one's own bags. The good part: the staff that was there were very friendly and helpful.

For Memphis in the summer: wear cool, washable clothes and comfortable walking shoes. There were three terrific restaurants within one block; one was next door.

Excellent location
This hotel was located in Downtown Memphis so we really didn't need to rent a car. The cab from/to the airport took only 15 minutes. A few places were outside of walking distance (Sun Studio, Graceland & Slave Haven) but we were able to take advantage of a free shuttle or short cab ride. The cabs were very easy to get and we didn't have to wait long. From this hotel, we could walk to the Mississippi River Museum/Mud Island, Riverboats, Civil Rights Museum, Gibson Guitar Factory, Rock & Soul Museum, Beale Street and the Peabody Hotel. After our first night in the hotel, we realized we needed an extra blanket, and when we called the front desk they brought it up in minutes. Our room was always cleaned while we were out, beds made and even the dishes washed! The pull out couch was perfect for our 10 year old. The room was big enough (2 tv's) so we didn't feel crowded at night while we were there. The hotel also offered a Reception in the evenings during the week that offered a light dinner and complimentary beer/wine, in addition to a buffet breakfast every morning.

Nightlife tip:
In Hotel
This hotel has a roof deck that is not staffed by the hotel at night. There is a jacuzzi and seating areas, plus grills you can use but not much lighting. We found on the weekends that it was a very noisy/party atmoshere not suitable for families. During the week, it was much quieter.

Great place to relax
This hotel was in a perfect location close to all attractions and the trolley. The full breakfast was great and the loft room was very spacious. The staff was very nice. Parking garage around the corner for $8.00 during the week and $5.00 on the weekends. We would definitely stay here again

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
no close shopping malls to the downtown area. Must drive to get to the shopping. Great old fashioned peanut/candy shop around the corner on main st. for fresh roasted peanuts by original MR. PEANUT

GOOD STAY
I enjoyed my 6 day stay.I was there for a COGIC church convocation.I think the hotel did everything to make my stay comfortable. The room was nice. My room was a queen bed with a pull out sofa 2 chairs and kitchen area all one big room. I really enjoyed the kitchen because I was able to cook If I wanted to. There was a dishwasher microwave, full size fridge and stove, pots, pans utensil nice counter area with 3 highback chairs. They washed my dishes each day. There were nice touches such as popcorn tea, coffee and hard candy each day. Hotel staff were nice. The only thing I think they need to improve is the tv,it is very dated it was adequate but need to be updated to LCD slimline tv and satellite service. The DVD was nice. The computer room or business center could be larger and in a room to itself instead of out in the open. I was out most of the day so I didn't use the exercise room or pool. They had a very nice full breakfast each morning (eggs, hashbrown, yogurt, cereal biscuts, toast oatmeal fruit, waffles jucies and coffee and tea)and small snack like dinner each weekday nite at 6:30(hotdogs and beans or small chicken steaks and slaw and things like that which I thought was nice and different for a hotel).Kitchen staff was very nice. I saved money on food because of this. I would stay again.

It was a short walk to the cook convention center and Fed Ex. The 1.00 trolley was nice if you wanted to ride, it is only a short distance away.

Great Stay!
We've stayed here previously and believe it's still a very nice place to stay while downtown. We love the room setup and the staff is friendly and helpful. The internet is the biggest let down, even if you use the computer available in the lobby. When I saw that I would have to use an ethernet cable, I knew this wasn't going to be good! Hopefully by my next visit, the hotel will be offering wireless internet service.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Short walk or trolley access to all downtown attractions, such as Beale Street, AutoZone, FedEx Forum, etc. It seems that the Peabody Place Mall was deserted when we were there Friday night...a lot of the businesses that were previously there have closed or moved elsewhere.
